Hi

Just after a bit of advice.

Basically me and my hubby bought an '06 reg' car from Perrys in August of last year - it had tinted windows pre-applied to the front and rear windows, which the salesman advised had been put on by the previous owner.

Then, the police pulled us over in December and the front windows were only letting in 26% of light compared to the legal requirement of 70%. Rather than a caution he made it go all the way to court.

We told Perrys about this and they admitted that the car should never have passed the NetworkQ check. They wrote a letter for the court to this effect.

Motoring lawyers advised that my hubby could have received points on his licence and/or a fine.

Thankfully the letter from Perrys and our 'mitigating circumstances' meant that the court only fined us £55.00.

Perrys have never apologised or offered to pay the fine or give us any kind of compensation.

We were driving around in a car that would have had void insurance had we had an accident - we have been told it would have been void due to the car windows being illegal.

Hubby has taken 3 days off work in total over this, we had to pay to get the tints removed and have paid the fine out of our own pockets.

We are now considering asking for some kind of compensation as Perry said they would do a super deal on a new car for us, but they haven't - Caffyns across the road from us will do near on the same 'deals' as what Perrys have suggested.

Whats the best thing for us to do anyone - I dont want them to just get away with it - I just hate the fact that had we had an accident and god forbid any of us had died we would have been uninsured.

Are you in the market for a new car?

If so, then list the out of pocket expenses ie fine, pay etc; and go see what they offer you. When you have got them as low as possible, bring out your list and say if you knock this off as well then we have a deal and see what they say.

Remember, you bet a better deal and monetarily more off by having goodies fitted (alloys, cd auto changer etc), rather than a cash discount.

Have a talk in a good but positive manner, it they really want a sale they will come to you. Remember also, that the governments get £2,000 is not all by the gov, £1,000 is from the government and £1,000 from the dealer so keep that in mind that they must have a thousand to play with right away.
