GMAC seem to have had a shake-up in their Credit Management department and have employed some human beings!

Yesterday a colleague I had previously helped with a repossession claim asked to make a telephone call from my office due to needing privacy. He had missed 2 payments under a suspended possession order and had received a call from GMAC asking him to call to discuss.

He made the call and I listened in as a witness to what was being said. He got through to the lady who left the message for him, and to our surprise she couldn't be more helpful and sympathetic. The outcome was that he carries on with the arrangement that was made under the original order for 3 months and providing he maintains the arrangement they will stop the £50 per month arrears charges!

We were gob-smacked to say the least - he had been expecting an eviction notice. During the conversation it transpired that they have been put in place to negotiate and find ways to halt repossession and make eviction a last resort.

I would urge anyone who is in trouble with their GMAC mortgage to telephone them asap as they are willing to come to an arrangement. I have a telephone number and name if anyone wants it.

If you do phone, record the call if at all possible. At the very least keep a record of the date and time of the call and try to get a name. Most importantly ask for written confirmation.

Just an update; the letter arrived as promised detailing the payment plan for the arrears exactly as agreed on the phone.

Also, the letter confirmed the £50.00 per month arrears charges had been cancelled (he thought he had to wait 3 months for that).

Good stuff. Let's hope others get the same kind of response now too.

I know, sorry about you're fiance's situation.... unfortunately the lenders didn't have the government leaning on them last year:(

KMC seem to be doing the same. I want to try and stick my arrears on the end of my mortgage but I always pay 2 weeks late and you need to pay on time for three months. They have said they are going to look into me missing a month so that payments will be on time for three months so that I can do this.

Before they would have never have entertained that idea. I did actually ask them if they had finally employed human beings compared to the last lot of inhumane objects they had there. The man just said "we have had new people employed"
