I was returning from Brussels to London when the fire broke out in the tunnel and our train was returned to Brussels. Eurostar told us they would pay for one nights accomodation in Brussels. I had to buy flights back to the uk and pay for train travel across london in oredr to get home - the whole thing cost me £350. Eurostar paid for a nights accomodation and refunded the return part of my ticket but said that I would have to claim from my tavel insurance for the rest - I am £350 out of pocket! My insurance company says they will not pay for the alternative trasport and merely sent a cheque for £25 for delayed travel. Where do I stand? Surely someone shohould reimburse me?

I'm a bit confused how you are £350 out of pocket. Surely, if Eurostar reimbursed you the unused portion of your ticket, then you are out of pocket by £350 minus £x you got off them? :-?

Secondly, did you notify your insurance of your situation when the incident happened? If you didn't, they have good grounds to refuse to pay out on the grounds they didn't authorise it and they probably could have organised it for you cheaper using their own agents. What reason are they

giving to refuse paying?

You can ask them to reconsider and if not to make sure they state theirs is a final decision then go to the FOS.
