KeysWhitlock are a debt collection company, they send letters out with no address on them so you can't write to them  An employee at work has had a letter from them regarding non payment of a payday loan. I am trying to get some info for him and will let you know when I have something.

Yep, and only a PO Box address in Bicester on the back of the envelope!!

I thought it was illegal not to have an address or company registration number on letterhead (but I might be wrong).

They have to have an address on all of their correspondance, it's a legal requirement for any company with a consumer credit licence, nawty, nawty

It's illegal for a registered company to not have its Registered Office address listed on its headed paper. However... I'm not finding any KeysWhitlock registered at Companies House.. perhaps this is a trading name of another company? It seems a bit dodgy anyway....

In which case my first letter to this company would be an edited version of the "contact only in writing" letter amended to point out the illegality of their business practice of including a correspondence/registered office address on their business paper and informing them that you will be notifying the relevant authorities. :D

All very well, but who are the relevant authorities in this instance?

And do you really think they would do anything about it?

I really do appreciate all those 'thank you' emails - I'm glad I've been able to help. Apologies if I haven't acknowledged all of them.

You can also ding my gong if you prefer. :)

The IC is probably as efficient as updating their register as they are in dealing with complaints

Of course, if they haven't register, the IC will only ask them to do so, some time this decade

Have just done a search and that PO Box you mention is probably Payday Loans themselves.

Payday UK

PO Box 255

Bicester

Oxfordshire

OX26 4ZY

Same??

Either they have an in-house collections or a made up KeysWhitlock Department!

Hey I might start my own debt collection agency at work. 'You owe Chloecat 75p for a cup of coffee'

That's interesting. Both BT and Yellow Pages give -

The Payday Loan Co Ltd

113 High Street

Slough SL1 1DH

01753 876100

Neither gives a fax number.

Where did you find your reference?

but where are you going to send the letter to - there is only a PO Box address on the back of the envelope and if you send it by recorded delivery you are not guaranteed to get a signature from a PO Box. Sending it ordinary mail means they can say they never got it -

They don't want you to be able to write to them - they want you to phone them so they can bully you

You could use the email address for Payday to start with....

They don't show up on the Information Commissioners Office database either; companies have to show all their trading names on this. Even if this is a one-man band, if they process data they must register.

Are they hiding their phone number when calling?

Are these listed?

MEM Consumer Finance LTD,

Are KeyWhitlock a sub of the above?

MEM run Payday

But you're right about the Payday bit - it's a payday loan they're chasing!!

Sorry, I'm barking up the wrong tree. The one you found is "Payday UK is a trading name of MEM Consumer Finance Ltd – one of the UK’s largest online payday lenders."

Payday UK is just a trading name, not the company name.

The company I found is here - The Payday Loan Company. I have a funny feeling I will not be contacting them - scroll down their home page to see their typical APR.

* Typical % APR is 1734.1
