Hi all,

I probably don't have a leg to stand on, but I thought I'd enquire anyway :)

I was browsing the B&Q website for tiles. Found the perfect one, the page stated there were 112 tiles in a pack. The packs cost £6.97 each. Ridiculously cheap, I know.

But I thought I'd enquire anyway. The online guide said they were available at my local store. Rang the local store, they said there were only 20 in a pack.

So I emailed B&Q and asked that they sell me the required amount of packs at the price stated online. I only wanted 4.

After a couple of weeks (and after I noticed that they'd amended the online price) they said they were under no obligation to sell to me at the stated price.

So can B&Q simply charge what they like regardless of the price they advertise online?

Cheers,

Ange

Yes - it was clearly an error, which they have amended.

A company is under no obligation to sell for a price they advertise, under the contract of sale you make an interest in purchasing the products at that price (Invitation to Treat) which they can in turn accept, decline or offer to sell it for a higher price (or lower).

They are not allowed to mislead customers by advertising the products for a cheaper price deliberately, however the regulations do take into account that human error may occur so companies do have the opportunity to rectify the problem.

Also most companies will also usually state that the online price may vary from that in stores.
