I changed electricity suppliers almost a year ago. My old electricity supplier (Utility Warehouse) contacted me in February via a bill saying I owed them almost £300. With the meter readings I had and what the new supplier had it was quite evident that I had paid the new supplier the money (as I was billed) and then a dispute insued between old and new suppliers as to who owed who the money. I contacted both suppliers and was told not to worry as they would sort it out. I recently received a refund from new supplier for the approximate amount and suddenly 2 letters in two days from a DAC.

I am not happy with the threatening nature of the letter and especially the lower bit about if I owned a home and could not afford to pay the debt in full immediately to contact their debt counselors.

Now with all bills going through the roof I cannot afford to pay the full amount and realistically around £10 - £20 a month, but I am not giving them details of my home as I presume theyre trying to secure the debt in some way ?

Are they (the DAC ) obliged to accept an offer to pay the debt (which I do not dispute) ?

It seems to me as though they want to secure whatever the debt is on your home. As you are disputing it, then you certainly dont want that. Dont phone them at all. Keep all communication in writing.

Someone with more experience will surely pop in and advise you what best to do.

Hi there,

It seems to me that this company has a link with a financial lending house (loan company). Just reading between the lines.

I would write to their client as they suggest (copy to DCA) and demand that they and the previous supplier sort out who owes what to who and leave you out of that equation.

Threaten to report both suppliers to the relevant ombudman.

Just my input hope it helps

Cheers

Paul

Ps if you've had a refund then yes speak to your new supplier and agree a monthly figure plus a figure towards what you already owe them.
