I changed electricity suppliers almost a year ago. My old electricity supplier (Utility Warehouse) contacted me in February via a bill saying I owed them almost £300. With the meter readings I had and what the new supplier had it was quite evident that I had paid the new supplier the money (as I was billed) and then a dispute insued between old and new suppliers as to who owed who the money. I contacted both suppliers and was told not to worry as they would sort it out. I recently received a refund from new supplier for the approximate amount and suddenly 2 letters in two days from a DAC. I am not happy with the threatening nature of the letter and especially the lower bit about if I owned a home and could not afford to pay the debt in full immediately to contact their debt counselors. Now with all bills going through the roof I cannot afford to pay the full amount and realistically around £10 - £20 a month, but I am not giving them details of my home as I presume theyre trying to secure the debt in some way ? Are they (the DAC ) obliged to accept an offer to pay the debt (which I do not dispute) ?
