Hi,

I just have a quick question regarding gp appointments...

About a month ago I made an appointment to see the GP as this was one of the few times I could get off work I decided to book it a fair bit in advance to ensure I got in.

The practice I am a patient at is a rural one and the surgery I was due to attend was being held a village hall and consequently had no reception staff on hand.

I had been given a printed appointment card at the time of making the appointment confirming date, time, location, and doctor's name. However when I turned up I was told that I was not in fact booked in for that day and that there was a note on my file for a missed appointment the week before!

In short the practice had signed me up for the wrong date so I ended up wasting a 1/2 day's holiday, petrol money and my time because of an administrative cockup.

Essentially my question is, can I pass on any of the above costs to the surgery? It really doesnt feel right to me that I should be left out of pocket due to their error!

Thanks in advance

Jimmy

I did keep the card, I figured if nothing else I could go in and do some angry waving of it under someone's nose, should I get another day off to do it that is!

The GP did offer to see me at the end of the surgery (13:30), but bearing in mind my appointment was 10:30, I had arrived early, and I had to be back at work by 13:00, I explained my situation and politely declined. The GP said there was no way she could see me before this so I left.
