Good evening.

I have a car in a rented garage which is sorn registered. The sorn expired on 1st October 2007, but I did not receive a reminder.

Today I received a letter telling me the above and inviting me to pay £80 plus £30 arrears (I assume for tax).

I intend to challenge on the non receipt of the reminder.

We will normally send you a reminder when your Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) declaration is about to expire.

But I did not receive any reminder.

Any chance?

I think the sneaky word here is 'NORMALLY' they are covering themselves incase they don't send a reminder. I read somewhere last year that DVLA might be going to stop sending out car tax reminders as this costs a lot of money to do. It would be up to us to remember when it's due. Sorry I've not been much help but I would challange the penalty. You never know you might just win:rolleyes:
