Hi

Jessops has lost our wedding negatives that our proffessional wedding photography took. They have admitted this and they want to know what we want in compensation.

I have no idea of what sort of compensation I should be considering. Are we talking £200 or £2000.

Any thoughts or comments?

I really feel for you. Your weddig day photos would have been a permanent momento of your happy day. As for compensation, didn't your professional have anything in its terms and conditions for this sort of thing? If they didn't I would start with the higher figure and then hopefully you could come to some sort of agreement between yourselves.

We agreed with the photography that we would get the photos developed. He handed us the negatives that was the agreement.

We gave the negatives to the nationwide company Jessops who has lost them.

I will try and hunt out some other claimants similar to you and get back in a while.

Just been having a look at an insurance company that offers insurance to cover loss of photos/videos. They would have insured you up to £3000.00. Try and have a look at other insurance companies and see what their coverage is in order to get a rough idea on how much compensation to claim for. Then once you have an average figure in mind, go back to Jessops and ask for that figure.

When a company lost my film of my newborn baby, I was informed that they would only offer the cost of the film and the processing. :(

After arguing with them, I managed to get £150 compensation from them.

Hi Nat

From what I have heard so far from actual recent situations, £150 is probably the going rate. However I am sure that a major company like Jessops should and can cough up a £1000 or so. Or would they rather gain bad local press etc.

Hi,

My brother got married and the shop in Edinburgh processing the pictures caught fire and was burned down to the ground.

All he got was a divorce!! (a few years later right enough.):p

But have to agree, you must be due some compensation.

Best wishes.

Scott.

Any advice I give is honest and in good faith.:)

Not quite at the divorce stage yet. Still not getting my ironing done! Just not sure how much to go for a £1000 or £100. Do you what I mean. In fact I might be going in to Jessops this Saturday to see what they are saying.

  • 2 years later...

It is rather late to join this discussion but I have a memory of reading a report of a test court case, years ago, which established that limiting compensation for lost photographs to the cost of the film is unlawful under the Unfair Terms Act. I wish I had written down the details (John Doe v. Richard Roe, or whoever). I cannot find it on useless Google - now that Boots have lost the negative of my best photograph of my sorrel silver Somali cat

You should be thinking £2000 and up but it would be useful to know more about the circumstances
