SEnt off intial letter about 3 weeks ago and had no response .... so sent off letter before action earlier this week and have subsequently recieved this response which has obviously croosed over in the post

" I have noted your comments etc etc

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has commented that they consider the level of late payment charges to be unfair: however, they were actually referring to late payment fees for credit card payments which are quite distinct from a banks charges on current accounts.

As yet the OFT have not entered into any discussions with the banking industry regarding current accounts. However, should that position change i the future then A & L will participate as appropriate."

The rest is basically get stuffed

can anyone please advise

Many thanks in anticipation.

I always find it amazing that letters from the banks use hundreds of words just to say "get stuffed" lol

Good luck Paul.

Got the exact same letter from AnL. Funny thing is though, Ive already filed court proceedings and they have acknowledged them?!?!? Letter was about 6 days after acknowledgement! Seems one hand doesnt know what the other hand is doing!

And A&L are wrong about the OFT statement. It said they considered credit card charges are unlawful and it added that they considered those charges on bank accounts are the same. The fact that the banks have not discussed it with OFT is irrelevant.

You wouldn't mind them being snooty if they were right (well you would actually but that's another matter). Sometimes you would think it's the personal money of the staff, not the bank the way they behave
