I have just received a bill for title transfer and remortgage for £1,400 I used Aaen Peach solicitors in Glasgow after going through hbc The initial quote was £395 plus vat, they didn't give any list of charges but had it in the details that i would be charged for costs incurred by the company I've sold houses previously and done a title transfer with a mortgage before but wasnt charged anything like this, it wasn't a complicated case so that is why I'm so shocked at such a high bill could anyone offer any info please Thank you

Hi guys, loving this site for information. Apologies if I'm flogging a dead horse here as I've seen some threads about CRS and people being chased for "unpaid" gym fees. I'm just looking for any information how people have got on. Long story short, I was contacted by CRS approx two years ago regarding a default £20 payment from my old gym surprise surprise excercise4less. My apparent debt was now £106 after CRS fees had been added on. I lettered them back saying in my opinion I had submitting my last payment on time and cancelled in writing. We sent a couple of letters back and forth but as I wouldn't recognise the debt, they eventually forwarded it on to a recovery agency who I refused to engage with. They sent one letter telling me they would reduce cost to £76. Over a year has passed (in this time I threw out all kept correspondence) now CRS have emailed me twice , the later threatening me by contacting a named solicitor. Has anyone got to to this stage? And what's next? Finally I like a good fight as much as they next guy and I'll gladly have my day in court Out of interest tho if I lost how much can they legally claim from me? Am I entitled to pay thousands in legal fee's? Any help would be much appreciated Thanks

Does anyone know of any genuine employment lawyers that will do a FREE assessment for no win no fee. All the websites offering this always want an assessment fee which totally goes against the principle of no win no fee! I do however need help as I have a five day final hearing coming up in February.

A surge in the number of people representing themselves in court has prompted legal organisations to draft guidelines for lawyers who come up against people who find themselves in court without legal representation. The guidelines have been developed by the Bar Council, Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) and the Law Society in response to the rising numbers of people representing themselves in court without a lawyer as a result of cuts to legal aid, the increase in the small-claims limit and the introduction of employment tribunal fees. The practical guidelines are relevant to the civil and family courts and tribunals where there has been an influx of people who cannot afford to instruct a lawyer, have not been able to obtain free legal advice and often have no alternative other than to embark on 'do it yourself' justice. The guidelines discuss how far lawyers can help unrepresented people without this conflicting with their duties to their own clients. Lawyers are advised to communicate clearly and avoid technical language or legal jargon, or to explain jargon to the unrepresented party where it cannot be avoided. Hi All When I left my ex-employer due to to some payroll issues they claimed I ended up owing them approx £5,500. I arranged to make them payments of £50/month and have been for the past 3 years. So they now say I owe £4,000. I am currently off work due to long term-sickness of several months, end of last year I stopped receiving sickness pay so mentioned to my ex-employer that I would not be able to make the £50/month for the time being, I mentioned this by e-mail. I heard nothing back from my ex-employer on this but I have received a letter (sent to an old address.... which I coincidentally managed to receive!) from a solicitor dated Fri 10 April advising they are acting on behalf of my ex-employer and require payment of £4,000 by Tue 28 April or they will issue a CCJ. Please advise? - Is this possible? Whilst I have been paying the claimed amount back at the agreed rate I never agreed to it in the sense of signing a credit agreement etc - My intention had been to continue paying it as soon as I was back at work and earning again. Any and all advise Greatly Appreciated. Thanks

Please does anyone have an experience of claiming compensation for breach of data protection act? My insurance company sent me a letter claiming a staff of theirs sold my accident details to injury lawyers. I WENT through a hard times in the hand of the lawyers. Can I therefore claim for compensation from my insurance company for distress? Thanks

Morning all, I had a rather strange phone call yesterday afternoon on my mobile number from a company calling themselves CTS Lawyers. The call was about the accident I had. Obviously under normal circumstances I would immediately think that the company is on a 'fishing trip' and would tell them to go away. The odd thing about this was that firstly the number was withheld. Secondly he knew my name, but the significance here is that 4 years ago my name changed due to civil partnership. He asked for me by my previous name. Furthermore, he said that my details had been passed to them via some broker, though he wouldn't tell me who, AND that it was about a rear-shunt accident in a car we owned 5 years ago. It's all rather strange. According to the ICO, they have a company called DBS Law Ltd which trades under several names, one of them being ClaimsToday Solicitors, being based in Broad Street Birmingham. The receptionist told me that CTS Lawyers is one of their trading names, though when someone called me back he denied this and stated that they have an ongoing Police investigation regarding an outfit potentially using their name. The DVLA confirmed yesterday that the car is no longer registered in my civil partner's name. As I said earlier, normally I would just discount this type of call, but it was the fact that he seemed to know pertinent information about me and the vehicle, which being slightly paranoid makes me wonder if someone is or has attempted to make a fraudulent insurance claim with my details. On the back of this, I have contacted the Motor Insurance Bureau, and a manager there told me that could search against their database to see if they hold any records of an insurance claim made in my name or against the vehicle. I should add that I haven't had an accident since 1995. Can anyone think of anything else that I may have missed? More importantly if there is anyone out there that has had a similar call from a company calling themselves CTS Lawyers? TIA.

The Salvation Army realised that it had never received a donation from the city's most successful lawyer. So a Salvation Army volunteer made an appointment to see the lawyer in his lavish office. The volunteer opened the meeting by saying, "Our research shows that even though your annual income is over two million dollars, you don't give a cent to charity. Wouldn't you like to give something back to your community through the Salvation Army?" The lawyer thought for a moment and said, "First, did your research also show you that my mother is dying after a long, painful illness and has huge medical bills that are far beyond her ability to pay?" Embarrassed, the Salvation Army volunteer mumbled, "Uh... No, I didn't know that." "Secondly," says the lawyer, "did it show that my brother, a disabled Veteran, is blind, confined to a wheelchair and is unable to support his wife and six children?" The stricken volunteer began to stammer an apology, but was cut off again. "Thirdly, "the lawyer said, "did your research also show you that my sister's husband died in a dreadful car accident, leaving her penniless with a mortgage and the burden of supporting three children, one of whom is disabled and another who has learning disabilities requiring an array of private tutors?" Completely beaten, the humiliated Salvation Army volunteer said, "I'm so sorry. I had no idea." And then the lawyer said, "So, if I don't give any money to them, what makes you think I'd give any to you.
