Just checked my credit file on Noddle. Hitachi Capital have run 2 searches on me, 1 in February and again in August. Feb. was marked "Administration Review" and August search was marked "Price Comparison Hdd". I have never had any dealings with Hitachi, and have never had a price comparison for anything that I am aware of. Why have these searches been done? Should I be concerned? I have had no direct contact from Hitachi. Thanks t

hi,just wondering if anyone could give me a little advice on behalf of a friend. he bought a toshiba laptop around 8 months ago and the hdd is starting to fail, when switched on,it takes a long time to load up,when it does get to the home screen,it comes up with a message stating "Windows detected a hard disk problem",it gives 2 options,"start the backup process", or,"Ask me again later". fortunately, there is nothing he is concerned about losing on the hdd,as it is all on an external hdd,,so my question is this---can he go to the pcworld store where he bought it and expect a free repair and probable replacement if faulty? i've had personal experience with pcworld with products still under 12 months warranty, none of it good,so he will have to go to the store without me,as i will shout at the top of my voice if i get the usual reaction of 'oh,its not down to us,you have to contact the manufacturer yourself',yada yada yada and so on,which quite frankly is b***s***. so if i can tell him that he is entitled to free repair(with rights on his side)he can go to the store and leave it in the capable(lol) hands of pcworld. sorry for the little rant, but i have absolutely no time,or respect for pcworld or their staff,i did warn him about buying from them, but he made his own choice! thx for any help offered on this subject.

I would be grateful for any advice on how to proceed with this problem: I had a desktop failure that turned out to be the motherboard on a PC of about 3 years in age. I took it to Techguys in PC World where it cost £69 to tell me it was the motherboard. The data on the hard drive had not been backed up for a long time (basic error I know!) and so I paid £99 for the Data Recovery service. The Data Recovery was paid for 2 months ago and the PC incl HDD went in to the Techguys. Despite numerous phone calls and personal visits to the store, the PC and HDD can not be found. Despite numerous promises only one phone call has ever been returned and that was never followed up by as I requested. The lost PC is probably not he major issue given its state of repair but the lost data does bother me. I believe that this situation is not subject to the disclaimer on loosing data as this refers to data loss as a result of work they actually carry out as opposed to actually loosing control of the data itself through negligence. Any ideas on how to take this forward? Thanks , Alan
