Booked a 'camping' break for two nights 13th to 15th Feb, this was booked on the 16th Jan. However, the better half no longer wishes to go, mainly due to the weather/temperature, but primarily because she isn't feeling great, and would prefer to simply go out for the day on Valentines day. I rang Away Resorts who deal with the bookings, and was told that if I cancelled then they don't have to refund the cost (£70) because their T&C's say so..... https://www.awayresorts.co.uk/terms-and-conditions/ Seventy quid is a lot of money for us, just to simply throw away into someone elses profit pocket...... I am aware of potentially having to go the visa debit chargeback route, but I'm also aware they will more than likely claw it back, just out of spite? I'll be writing to them to air my disgust and disappointment with them, but can anyone think of a better angle of attack here?? TIA..Boo

Shadow chancellor Ed Balls has been fined £900 and given five penalty points for failing to stop after a car crash in West Yorkshire. The Labour MP was ordered to pay a £900 fine, a £90 surcharge and contribute £85 towards the costs of prosecution. Another guilty charge to add to his long tally. Last year, he was given three points for driving through a red light on the Embankment in central London. He was also caught speeding in West Yorkshire, for which he paid a fine and attended a speed awareness course rather than accept penalty points. In 2010 the then Children's Secretary was fined £60 for using a mobile phone while driving. This is the sort of crap who thinks they have a right to run this country.

Following on from my CIFAS SAR balls-up here: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?391735-CIFAS-query-wrong-name Synectics have followed suit in a way. I sent my SAR and they sent back a cover letter which said 'the records we hold are enclosed' but nothing was enclosed. I phoned up to ask, and they phoned me back and said 'its ok, we found them in a drawer'. Surely this isn't OK? I'm going to complain because the idea of data held about me by a company I've only heard of in the last month (and data with contents that I am completely unaware of) sat in someone's drawer rather than being in my recorded envelope really p****s me off! I'm getting properly fed up with shady companies messing round with my information! I'm sick to death of being lied to by employees that either don't know better or are brainwashed into believing they're acting in the best interests of the business world!

Ed Balls, the Shadow Chancellor, has been fined for jumping a red light as he left Parliament. Mr Balls was caught on camera as he drove home along the Embankment, in central London, after leaving a late night Commons sitting last December. The Labour MP has now been caught for traffic offences on three separate occasions. More ... Here is some cheerful news during these hard times lol.

I note with amusement that the Daily Mail's normally well balanced and impartial readership have rounded on hapless Eddy for daring to threaten a cap on state pensions. Indignant Mail readers are voicing their disapproval and disgust that he is suggesting that senior citizens should be included in the 'we're all in it together' club. The general consensus seems to focus on the beleif that paying NI for all ones working life implies an entitlement to a pension, whilst having a jolly good go at all the benefit scroungers, none of which of course have paid a single penny in NI. So the JSA claimant that has just been made redundant after contributing NI for 30 odd years is a ponce on society, but the poor old pensioner with 30 odd years worth of contributions is a worthy cause if ever there was one.
