  1. Hello all I banged off a ppi enquiry to every single company that I had ever borrowed from, in case, although I'm fairly sure I always declined any extra services. Egg/One Canada Square replied last to say that I did have ppi on a very old credit card back in the day. I complained and today got a letter saying that my complaint was upheld but there was nothing to refund as no premiums were ever applied, something like that. Does that sound sensible/likely? If I dig out some old statements will it show on them as a separate line? SAR? Thanks Micky
  2. Hi, Not sure if anyone can help, I took 2 secured loans out within a couple of months of each other in 2006/2007, the loans were with iGroup, via Easy Loans (which I understand is or was a broker) and both were for over £5k each. Both loans were settled within a few months, the PPI was added up front (if that makes sense), when I cleared the loans I paid all of the PPI too even though, as I understood it, the loans were for 5 years and the policies too.. I find it hard to believe that I needed to pay the PPI for 5 years x 2 even though the money from the actual loans was paid back within, at the most, 6 months. I took these loans out with my then partner. Both loans and policies were in joint names, although I was not working so wouldn't have benefited from PPI, I also had various existing medical conditions. A few years back I tried to reclaim the PPI with Easy Loans, but was unable to (I can't remember why) and I even contacted the ombudsman but my claim was not upheld. If I remember correctly, something was said about the policies (at that time) still being active, though I may be wrong. I don't really understand the new rule/possible way of claiming? But have contacted GE Money with a view of trying to find out if I can try to claim again and they have asked me for identity documents which I have sent. Just querying if I am flogging a dead horse before I possibly go any further? Or am I contacting the wrong company? Any thoughts and/or advice most welcome, thanks.
  3. Hi, when the whole PPI claim thing started i didn't really think i could claim on this account, but here are the details. I had an Egg card 8 or more (not sure) years ago which started around £500 limit, i had PPI, and they kept raising the limit until about 6 months down the line i had a £3000+ limit, anyway i abused this and got to a point where i couldn't pay off even the minimum monthly payments, so charges and interest grew until the balance was £10k, i told them i couldn't pay this and reached an agreement for a one time payment of £3k to close the account. Would it be possible to claim PPI on this account? I don't know if i have any old statments on the account as i think i threw them when it closed.

  5. Hi Please, can you help me? I got into terrible debt many years ago. Abbey tried to repossess my house after a court hearing, but I sold it in time for not much profit. I had loans and credit cards outstanding and I got a CCJ for one of my credit cards who charged me a lot of PPI. It is seven years down the line and my Experian credit score shows clear. What I want to know is, can I reclaim PPI on all my mortgages and loans and credit cards from over the years? I know my CCJ is still enforceable, but this card was the main offender. Thanks
  6. I've been trying to get information about a mortgage my husband had with the Northern Rock from the mid 1980s to 1998. He was sold PPI and home insurance and was told he had to buy it from them as they wouldn't give him a mortgage if he didn't - the usual story. I remember ringing them about the insurance in the early 1990s as it was absolutely extortionate, very expensive and much more cover than he needed for a two-up, two-down terraced house. We've looked everywhere for the paperwork but think we must have lost it when we moved house six years ago. I rang the solicitors we used and they said they only keep records for seven years, they weren't interested anyway! This week I got a copy of a bank statement for the early months of 1998, just before we sold it, but there aren't any payments to Northern Rock from it and we can only think we must have paid it in our local branch office. I've already contacted N-RAM who replied very quickly to say that they had no records of anything in my husband's name! I haven't sent a data request as I don't know the mortgage number. It's become a bit of a challenge now, there must be records somewhere. Any help on ways of getting further information would be very welcome.
  7. Hi all, Hoping for a bit of advice about a successful claim that my step-dad has made. Bit of background, My mum had a stroke just over 3 years ago and lost the ability to speak, along with most motor skills down her right side. It was at this point that her partner of 17 years, to all intents and purposes my step dad, became her full time carer. Earlier this year he told me that he had been getting cold called regularly by a PPI reclaim company and had eventually relented and agreed for them to look into his claim concerning a loan he had taken out with Abbey National decades ago. He informed me that it was on a flat fee of around £40, at which point I voiced my disbelief and asked him to get me the details so I could look into it, which he followed up with a text a week later telling me that the company was called Professional Reclaim Services. I completely forgot about this until earlier this week he informed me that he had some good news and some bad news about his PPI claim with Santander, the good news was that he had been awarded £12000 and the bad news was that Professional Reclaim Services were actually charging him 39% + VAT!!!! So my question is can we do anything about this extortionate charge, which will result in him losing around 50% of his award? I have no problem paying a fair rate for a fair service, but he obviously did not understand that this was the case. Any help/advice appreciated.
  8. Hi all Had a credit card with MBNA since December 2001. Couple of months ago thought I would just check on the off chance that I had PPI - couldn't see anything when I looked online at my account. I went through the MBNA website and lo and behold it says that my account has had PPI from the minute the account was opened in 2001. Went through the claim and was given the 8 week deadline for a response. Had two letters from them confirming that they were still working on it. Got to the deadline day and decided to call them. Was told that indeed my claim had been upheld and that a payment was due of £576.48. I queried this amount and asked how they had made the calculation. The guy couldn't tell me but obviously had a script saying that with this amount my account would be back to normal. Not being satisfied with that I called again that day and spoke to another guy who again gave me no info. I asked if he could tell me how much each PPI premium was worth and what interest it had been rated at. Nothing. He said that he had no access to such info. Stewed on this and called again next day and spoke to a lady. All of a sudden she could supply me with all the info I needed, interest rates, actual premium amounts. On me remarking sarcastically that I couldn't understand why MBNA would bother sneakily cheating me out of less than £600 in 17 years. Didn't seem worth the bother. She then said that the PPI had been closed in March 2003 on this account, as per written request by me, the customer.?????? This was clearly a lie and alarm bells started ringing. The script kicked in perfectly again - "most people don't remember what they did some 17 years ago". I obviously asked for a copy of the letter to which I was told that we no longer have such a thing on file. Very convenient! I am alleged to have written cancelling an account that I still didn't know I had 17 years later. I told her that I smell a rat, based on the calculation she had presented me they could owe £15-£20k. Would make sense to try and blag me. She told me to send in a cheque for £10 and a request for "SAR" which she claims would show every single detail on the account from day 1. But now I don't trust them nor anything that they send me. Today I received the cheque which clearly I will not bank. Does this sound right to anyone? In two emails, two letters and then two conversations with their office nobody once mentioned that the PPI had only been for just over a year and that I had cancelled it in writing. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Feel like they have me over a barrel. Help!!! Thanks
  9. I have been playing snail mail ping pong with Nat West for several months now. I took out a gold card/ current account with them at the beginning of the nineties and closed the account in 2004. I was involved in bank charges litigation with them up to the end of 2006. I'm unsure whether I had PPI on this account and so I sent a letter to their PPI complaints department. They said that they weren't able to locate any account details and that I should send a SARN to their data protection department. They were unable to locate any data either. I supplied them with address data and details of where I held my account. Nat West have suggested that they would routinely destroy data six years after account closure which means that they would have done so in 2010. Given that PPI claims entered the mainstream in 2008, I am surprised that NAT West and presumably other banks have been able to destroy data that could well have been used as evidence. I would be interested in knowing whether anyone has recently been able to obtain credit card/ current account data more than six years after account closure.
  10. Please can I have some advice, my dad applied through a company for ppi, sadly 2 months later he unexpectedly passed away, we received notification he was due a payout from Lloyd’s bank after his death and duly received a cheque in his name , the estate has been passed to my mom, to whom Lloyd’s reissued the cheque in her name, the ppi company are demanding their charges be paid, Lloyd’s suggested we do not pay them as the contract was with my dad not my mom, where do we stand on this, if it is owed they will be paid, but if not legally required obviously we would rather not , many thanks
  11. Hi there. Just on the off chance my husband sent a request to Barclays to see if he had PPI on any of his cards. It turns out he had it on his Barclaycard Mastercard from Sept '97 until Dec 2004 and on his Barclaycard Visa from Sept '97 until Aug 2015. What would be our next step forward please? Thank you.
  12. Hi everyone, Ive had nothing but top advice when Ive previously used the forum - so here we go. I defaulted on my nationwide loan in approx 2010 - due to redundancy. Balance roughly 8k. Nationwide took proceedings against me and got CCJ for about 9k - enforced via a C/O that remains on my property. No payments being made as its interest free. I have had 2 loans in my life with them - 2nd was for 15k that paid of the last bit of my fist loan for about 8-10k I cant remember exactly. I have just had confirmation that there was PPI in these loans and nationwide are due to respond to me by 10/04. Heres where it gets messy... Nationwide are currently in the process removing the CCJ and charge because they never should have taken proceedings - due to them not showing interest on statements. They have advised once removed they can ask me for the initial debt but they cant legally pursue me (time barred now perhaps?) So I'm wondering that should I be successful with a PPI claim what are they going to do with the money - remove it from the balance ? Also here is a perfect example of why PPI was a rip off - I didn't know I had it and they sued me - they didn't say here make a claim on your insurance! I'm wondering if I should see a solicitor and if people agree does anyone have a recommendation in greater Manchester. Thanks for reading and advice needed please.
  13. Hi I had a loan over 10 years ago so decided to check if am due any PPI back, firstly I contacted a few companies who say they do a free check but then when you speak to them you find out they want a percentage if you are due any money. I went to my bank directly to find out, thought how hard can It be. I have a credit card also with them. They have sent me a PPI questionaire that I have fill and return within 14 days. It is really detailed about the sale of your PPI policy, use of the PPI policy, about the money borrowed, personal saving, employment status etc etc Anyone got any experience of these forms, do I need to fill them all in? or can I just walk into branch as them to help fill them in? thanks
  14. Feeling like I could do with some advice please. I have had 2 PPI's that HSBC have agreed to pay out on. I sent all the forms back on 16th Feb and was told that the offers were sent out to me that week. Nearly 7 weeks on and I have still had nothing in the post. I have been chasing weekly and have been promised calls back on 8 occasions. Can someone give me a direct email address of the head of complaints who deal with PPI at HSBC? With a husband who has been out of work for 8 months, this PPI payouts really will ease things for us and was hoping that they would have been in out account by the end of March. Any advice I'd be so very grateful for. Thanks in advance.

  16. Hi I need some advice please. Recently I replied to a direct mailshot from a Manchester-based PPI claim company called Consumer Claim Line. I had had a credit card some 20 years or so ago (Capital One card) and I wanted to find out if I had paid PPI on the payments. I returned the paperwork and thought to take advantage of their advertised "no claim no fee" offer to get this investigated. A few weeks later received a reply saying that their preliminary findings were positive and that I should sign the enclosed form authorising them to investigate my claim further. With this same reply paperwork enclosed was another form asking me to list any banks that I may have had accounts with in the past and they would look into these accounts too. I signed the authorisation forms for the Capital One account and sent back the other form listing the Clydesdale bank although details of this and the Capital One account I was not able to furnish as I had no paperwork and no recollection of any details. They said that details weren't important as they had ways of tracing accounts. A fortnight later I received correspondence from this company stating that their investigations showed that the Capital One account had previously been looked into (sometime in 2009 or 2010) and since I had not informed them of this they were invoicing me for a Cancellation penalty fee of £360 for wasting their time. Along with this invoice were two additional "letters of authority" for two Clydesdale bank loans (taken out sometime in the 1990's (I think) which they wanted me to sign and return to them. I telephoned them to explain that my claim on the Capital One account was made in good faith and that I had no recollection of having this investigated before (I have good medical reasons for general memory impairment which I explained to them) I asked them to therefore cancel this penalty fee they were demanding. I also stated that as a consequence of the outcome of this first experience I didn't want to return the forms for the Clydesdale bank investigation as because of my memory impairment I could not guarantee that this case had not also been investigated in the past. I had no recollection of this being the case but then again the same applied to the Capital One case. The supervisor whom I was explaining this to was not sympathetic to my position in fact he adopted a rather aggressive and threatening stance, threatening court action on non-payment of the penalty fee saying that for every subsequent reminder-letter they sent me an additional £20 would be added to the cancellation fee invoice . He further threatened that if I didn't send back the second set of "letters of authority" (for the Clydesdale bank loans) duly signed by myself a further £360 (each) of cancellation fees would be invoiced to me for payment. A few days later I received out of the blue a phone call form the company (from the same supervisor) saying that they have reconsidered and that if I go to my doctor and get him to write a letter confirming that my medical condition and strong medication I have taken (over a period of over 20 years) have indeed led to among other things severe memory impairment. I duly went to my GP and he wrote out a letter confirming what I had said, and I sent this doctor's letter in to the company. A week or so later I received another phone call (again from the same supervisor as before) and he now said that he would not accept my doctor's letter as he had met people before with the same condition that I suffered from and he didn't believe that it could cause memory impairment. In other words he completely disregards a doctor's medical opinion on a patient he has been treating for 25 years in favour of his own unqualified prejudiced and generalised opinion of the condition I suffer from (the condition is in fact Severe Clinical Depression). The decision stood he said and I now owe them 3 x £360 fees plus £20 further penalty on the first case ... a total of £1100. Can they do this ? Is there anything I can do about this ? If nothing else maybe this post will warn others of this companies practices. Regards, Jackthehat
  17. Hi everyone, I am about to make a claim against the above. I have received claim doc from BoS to fill and return within 14days. Does anyone have any experience of filling the form or claiming against them, so I do not make an error. They have sent me questionnaires for loans and credit cards Also, I have previously claimed bank charges from welcome finance and capital one some years ago. I have lost all the paperwork. Can I still claim PPI against them, and does anyone have their address or know how to make the claim. All advice is highly appreciated.many thanks
  18. Hi all, I was clearing out some paperwork today and found some old statements from an HSBC Credit card from 2004 - 2005. I was shocked to see some pretty massive payment protection payments every month, up to £70 in some months. I know that I had this credit card for many years, before and after this period, so I could have paid thousands in insurance. I genuinely don't remember if I paid this card off or not, I can't find any DCA letters chasing it up. Even if I didn't the debt would be long since statute barred. Last payment would have been made around 2007 ish. With a card this old, how would I go about kicking a PPI claim off? Also if I still owe the balance would HSBC simply be able to take the balance and pay it off against the loan?
  19. Hi- I had an HSBC credit card from 1998 to 2011. I read in other posts that people who opened a credit card this period had PPI on it I was able to find some statements from as far back as 2004 but I can't see any reference to PPI on them. Would that be included in the interest charge ? Should there be a separate charge for PPI? Is there anything else to look for on the statement that indicates PPI? Any advise would be appreciated. - Andy
  20. Hi I am wondering if anyone has had any success with singer friedlander for ppi claims, as I have just found the paperwork of an old car finance agreement, saying i had actually paid ppi. The problem being who do you go to,as SF were taken over by close motor finance then other companies i believe. Any help much appreciated. Thank you Bruce
  21. Hi just went on MBNA website as i credit card back in the late 90s with them , i have had a response saying yes it did have PPI on it and then they want me to fill in their own questionnaire. Is their a templete letter on here which will do a better job of makinag a complaint and what is the best process to follow. I am also doing the same for PPI with A Morgan Stanley(now Barclays) card and a peoples bank now Citi bank. I believe that all these cards were obtained via pre filled in application forms and included the PPI on the filled in application forms. Thanks in advance for any help
  22. Hi all : a while since I posted. Had rejected PPI claim from LLoyds TSB : upheld by Ombudsman. However since the Plevin case , in the last few days Ive had a letter from the Ombudsman saying Lloyds are now ready to make me an offer and if the Ombudsman don't hear from me by 12th December they will assume this is ok and close the case. I realise it won't be much but never the less its better than nothing as I had given up on it to be honest. Let's wait and see... thanks
  23. I had a personal loan from 1999 which had PPI on it. I didn't request PPI but the box on the CCA had a pre-printed tick in it. On challenging the PPI, Paragon claim the loan wasn't dependent on PPI and that they weren't regulated at the time so I have no claim against them. The FOS haven't been much help. I've read a thread by user justice4me from 2012 where they managed to successfully make a PPI claim in much the same situation. Does anyone have any information regarding what is needed to successfully make a PPI claim against Paragon? Cheers, OMWO
  24. Hi All, New to CAG so sorry if i've posted in the wrong area. I'm looking for some advice i Took out a Loan with Welcome Finance on the 27th November 2007 for £2000 with interest and PPI came to around £3000 to payback, half way through the Loan i lost my Job and was unable to Pay this loan back, and as ever "Buried my head in the sand" shamefully and ignored this Debt, i was also alot younger and stupid to even get a loan back then i think it defaulted and remains outstanding. I had a telephone call from a company called the PRA Group the other day saying that they had purchased this debt and the balance was a whopping £4837 so from around £1500 remaining to nearly 5K i was astounded I've had no contact or anything in 10 years! and i said to the lady on the phone would this not be Statue Barred and she apologised and confirmed it was in fact SB since 1st May 2016, having thought about it i called the WFSL to ask if the loan i had did have PPI and she confirmed it did, she advised the Debt was sold to a company called Experto Credit in May 2014 i never heard anything from this company probably due to the fact of house moves etc, she advised that if a PPI claim was what i wanted to do i would need to go through FSCS which i called and gave the reference number provided by WF and she would send a claim form in the post. my Question is having not Paid off the Loan, the loan being statue barred and the Debt being sold on to Experto Credit then PRA Group, if i do a claim will i receive the funds to myself or will this go back to the loan, Either way I'm not bothered as i never had so wont miss but at least something would go back to the loan even though WF unfairly added thousands extra on. any help/advice would be very much appreciated. thank you.
  25. Hi, Wonder if someone can point me in the right direction. Back in December 2004 (Paragon have quoted Feb incorrect below copy of their letter) my wife and I took out a £20k loan, and this loan had the mandatory PPI of £7k on the paperwork. With news of the Plevin judgement I approached Paragon and they have said the are unable to uphold my complaint and if unsatisfied to approach the Ombudsman. Is there anything I can do? can I even ask for the commission rate of the PPI? any help much appreciated Many thanks, Dusty Our investiqation ln the case of Plevin v Paragon Personal Finance [2014], the Supreme Court indicated that commission in some circumstances could result in an unfair relationship between the lender and the consumer, under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (Act). However, for the unfair relationship provision of the Act to apply, the Credit Agreement had to have been taken out on or after 6 April 20A7 or, for an agreement taken out before 6 April 2007 and be ongoing as at 6 April 2008. As your loan was taken out on 13 February 2004 and was redeemed on 23 January 2006, your complaint is considered ineligible under the Plevin judgement. Our decision. Based on the above information. I am unable to uphold your complaint. Whilst I appreciate this may not be the response you had hoped for, under the terms of our complaints procedure this is our final response. You may have the right to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, free of charge - but you must do so within six months of the date of this letter. Paragon PPI letter 250118.pdf
