  1. I took a phone call form a contractor to UK Powernetworks. today. He said that British Gas via the person who read my gas meter some 3 weeks ago had reported a fault before our electrical fusebox/meter. This had been replaced earlier in the year. All fully test and 100%. There is no fault. British Gas does not supply either our electricity or our gas. I challenged to contractor but allowed him to visit. He confided that he'd been told to knock at every door on our street advising of this 'fault'. He is not going to do this and has said that this feels just like cold calling. So I wonder what if there had been a 'fault' hmmm in a pigs eye. I expect that British Gas would have made some proposal. Just thought I'd let all you other folks out there know.
  2. Hope I've posted this in the right place and someone can advise me. Last year on my annual gas check, a leak was detected so the independant contractor capped my supply to the gas hob and fire. I finally got a quote for the work last month and this was based on replacing the pipework to both appliances - seemed reasonable so I agreed to the work being done. When the guys turned up they found the leak was in the actual gas fire so the pipework there didn't need to be replaced (which was the awkward bit of the job) - the hob pipework was replaced as it was apparently illegal. Finally got the bill last week and I have been charged the full quote, which doesn't seem right as it was lot less of a job than I was quoted for. Can I challenge them on this or was me agreeing to the quote a binding contract that I would pay £x regardless of the amount of work involved? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks
  3. My gas bills have become outrageous. We have a 3 bedroom semi and it's just two adults, a small child and a baby living here. We get our gas from British Gas. On the 6th of Feb this year we got a quarterly bill for £682.56. On the 11th of May they estimated another £540.28. I checked the meter today (26th of May) and their estimate for 11th May was high, but now two weeks later it is pretty close. Our usage is (in Kwh): Jul - Sep1352.28 [2012]Oct - Dec9651.26 [2012]Jan - Mar13994.18 [2013]Apr - Jun4642.55 [2013] As we pay £100 per month direct debit for gas we are now £1200 in debit to them - we are struggling to find a way to afford more. Isn't this a ridiculous monthly gas cost for an ordinary 3 bed semi? We have hot water on for four hours a day and heating is also on a timer combined with a thermostat. We cook with gas but only have a mini oven as the main one has a fault with the safety device. Our friends tell us they only pay an average of £45 for gas. An engineer has checked the meter flow with the boiler and says it's right. He detected no leaks through the test, the boiler is regularly serviced. What are we doing wrong???
  4. Hi guys, I have a repair & maintenance contract with British Gas whereby if you have a boiler problem, they fix it for a fixed fee of £99. I called them out in February when I had no hot water. The engineer said ideally I need a powerflush and when I laughed at his extortionate £700 price-tag said he should be able to fix it by adding a filter. Being low on money and knowing that exclusions often apply, I repeatedly asked if this would be included in my £99 or an additional cost and each time he said all costs would be included and that I'd get an invoice that would be waived - so I said to go ahead. He said he'd put in a temporary fix that "should" keep me going until he could return the next day with the filter. A week later I got the invoice and ignored it until I got a threat of credit blacklisting and that's when I put in a total of 4 complaints saying I felt misled by British Gas and that irrespective of Ts & Cs they may hide behind, British Gas was in my house assuring me all costs would be covered. Today I came home to an answerphone and an email from a British Gas bod, kindly IGNORING all my points about British Gas giving me their assurance and that I pushed and pushed to make sure there's no extra costs. Instead, as predicted, he hid behind Ts & Cs, claimed the filter was an "upgrade", that my threat of going to OFGEM was moot because OFGEM only cover gas & electric, and included a photocopy of paperwork I signed agreeing to work listed as an "upgrade". Do I have a case? Yes, I signed the paperwork which mentioned "upgrade" but this was after an hour of a British Gas representative repeatedly assuring me all costs would be covered in the £99 charge. He told me the invoice will be sent but that it will be waived and never once mentioned an "upgrade" - only "fixing" the problem. If he had "fixed" my problem and mentioned the filter being an "upgrade|"then I never would have agreed to the work being carried out! That is why I was asking him over and over if the cost would be at no extra cost! My signature was given in good faith and assumed under false pretences (or at the very least, through ineptitude and ignorance). I seem to recall EDF door-to-door salesmen fraudulently obtaining signatures, claiming it was to prove they'd read the meter but was really to switch their gas and electricity supply, and they got hauled over the coals for doing so. If the engineer was uncertain he should've checked with the office, or consulted the booklet before telling me the work would be free of charge, surely? Any help is appreciated.
  5. When moving into a property, you enter a "deemed contact" to pay the present supplier of gas and electricity for the energy you use. Without signing or ever even reading a contract, you're legally bound to their terms and conditions of supply from the moment you start using their product. As British Gas stipulate they report your account status to the CRAs in their standard ts and cs they immediately start reporting your account activity to experian, without you even knowing. Is this legal?
  6. So I've just got my final bill from british gas. My DD was set at £55 for electric and gas (suspiciously low right??) but with two people working full time in a tiny two bed I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I phoned up every month and provided meter readings and was told "ok that is very similar to our estimated so we don't need to update it" Then wham, Final bill for £1092.14!!!! Ive asked for a full breakdown of charges, payments and meter readings because when you close an account you cant access that information on your online account anymore. I can see the statements however, 18 Apr 2013 Energy Charges * 425.22 -1092.14 08 Apr 2013 Direct Debit payment received 55.00 -666.92 23 Mar 2013 Energy Charges * 551.81 -721.92 07 Mar 2013 Direct Debit payment received 55.00 -170.11 18 Feb 2013 Energy Charges * 250.36 -225.11 07 Feb 2013 Direct Debit payment received 55.00 25.25 22 Jan 2013 Miscellaneous adjustment 100.00 -29.75 18 Jan 2013 Energy Charges * 215.98 -129.75 07 Jan 2013 Direct Debit payment received 55.00 86.23 25 Dec 2012 Energy Charges * 23.77 31.23 So apparently ive used nearly £500 a month for the last two months!! I know its been cold but I rarely have the heating on and the house is only inhabited from 5pm at night! Could I really have used £500pm?? And why when I was phoning each month was I told that my estimated readings were fine and that my DD was fine! I used to work for a certain big utility supplier and If I had a customer that was using £500 PM I would advise them to increase their DD! I would have happily bumped it up at the time, but now I dont really have that option. Ive been made redundant and heavily pregnant so no hope of quick re-employment. Im back living with the parents and no idea how Im going to clear this balance!
  7. Hi all. I've got a complaint with my gas supplier. I asked for compensation on the 8th of April. Basically I didn't hear anything for about a month so I complained again attaching the original complaint email. I've now had a response asking me how much I wanted wanted compensating for, I had no idea what to ask for so I said - you tell me and Ill either agree or disagree. They're currently saying all I can ask for is £30 per day it was off, which I didn't think was very reasonable. The complaint is about gas that was shut off for planned upgrades (underground steel mains) - that should have lasted a couple hours, but instead went on for 77 hours! All because the contractors would not install the main in the location I wanted, which they eventually caved in and did it that way anyway! So the gas was cut off, on a Tuesday morning and not reinstated until Friday afternoon! In the meantime I had no central heating, hot water and means of cooking. I had to stay in every morning to get an answer on whether the guys would be coming back to reconnect, and when they didn't turn up I spent many minutes on the phone trying to resolve it. I phoned up every day to arrange some heaters. (we where looking after our little nephew) Everyday we where told they where coming, and to this day we're still waiting for them to arrive. All this taking place in March and in sub zero temperatures! So the £30 a day doesn't really cut it for me, what do you think?
  8. i have been receiving incorrect bills from british gas since 2008. this is because they were sending me bills based on someone elses gas usage because they didnt update the meter serial numbers when they changed the meters. i was paying them between 2008 and 2010, before i realised the bills were wrong. i stopped paying them , and british gas have been sending bills for 1000's, and sending bailiffs and threatening letters, court action etc. in january 2013 they finally admitted it was their mistake and they refunded my incorrect bill payments. can i make a small claim in a civil court for my costs of sending letters, making phone calls etc.? and also for my hassle to prevent a magistrate court allowing them to drill out my locks ?
  9. Dear CAGers This for a friends relative who is 76 and lives in a flat. Following the death of her husband this lady has gone into arrears to a moderate amount (I think around £1,000). As she only receives a state pension and housing benefits she has limited means. A gas meter reader visited the property on the previous Friday and merely read the meter with no other comment or documentation. A man has previously visited the property (around Feb/Mar) and for want of a better description 'bullied and intimidated' a small payment from the lady in question, in addition to her regular amounts. He intimidated her to speak to an unknown person to make a payment using his mobile phone. This action really distressed this old lady and has made her more than a little scared. Last Monday, 3 men turned up at her flat. The first the lady was aware of it was when she heard her front door open and saw a man standing there. She told him to get out and he did so - after some fuss. He did not ring the door bell nor make any attempt to alert the resident he was there before he entered. There has been no warning letter, nor personal visit as I believe is required in this instance. Whilst they were there my friend had a pre-arranged call on her mobile to gather family tree information where they record the call and use this lady's knowledge to progress their family tree. A recording of a lot of the events exists and is actually quite distressing even for a non-interested third party. The main man (same as Feb/Mar) claimed to have a warrant, but the piece of paper flashed in front of the lady did not look like a warrant (she has seen some before). He also did not give her a copy, nor allow her any time to gather reading glasses, let alone actually read it. It appears they claimed to be there to change the GAS meter to a pre-payment type. Whilst the call was on, the lady so terrified by this man that she said she was going to call the Police. Almost immediately following this (and hearing the lady was speaking to someone on the phone) the ELECTRICAL power to the property was turned off, the mains supply switch being located outside the front door. One can only assume that the man in question believed the lady was on a cordless phone and wanted to stop her from communicating with the Police. I received a call from my friend and jumped to the CAG board and discovered the Police will consider this a civil matter, but procedures must be followed to have the right to enter a property. The call continued and it appears three men were there, considerably taller and bigger than this 76 year old lady. The main man then tried to claim they had the right to enter and HE would call the Police. A stand off ensued lasting a few hours. During this stand off, various attempts were made by (what sounded like) the main man to poke metal devices through the letter box, fiddling with the door lock and loud voices. As another method of intimidation what sounded like a power drill was brought up and whirred near the door. The lady in question was getting really distressed and does keep her correspondence and payments fairly well organised. She had no advance notice of these people CLAIMING to be from npower GAS turning up. The mains electricity switch was returned to the ON position before they eventually departed. The police did not attend. No documentation was left identifying who was there or why. This has left the lady quite shaken and does not know what to do about this. On Wednesday a letter arrived from (I think United Utilities) stating they would be visiting the property on the PREVIOUS Monday. What exactly would be the procedures they have not followed? As this three-man team claimed to be there for gas, did they behave correctly in switching off the electricity supply? If they have not followed procedures, would the man's entry into the property be considered burglary? What legal avenues are available? What documentation should be present and left to read and refer to? How can this lady prevent that particular man from turning up again as he frightens her? As always, any help on these matters is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  10. Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice. I recently changed house and thought I would stay with British Gas, on the phone the lady asked for the readings of the new house, I told them to her. Now 3 months later I have received my bill, a whopping £700. It's a small flat, and my old bills are all around £150 mark. Now I called them 2 days ago and it appears they don't have my initial reading, they've estimated my initial reading. The billing dept. were closed so I called today, first put to someone who didn't understand what I was saying, then onto someone else. He told me that they had liaised the previous utility company, but then he asked to confirm me to confirm the reading. I don't have a copy of it, but he had told me that they had it. So I said to him ''Please tell me the utility company you liaised with to get my reading,'' He told me he did not have to and that he was not going to. So I said then tell me the reading you got from them, again he refused. So I asked to speak to his supervisor, this made him quite angry and he started raising his voice and he told me he was not going to pass me to a supervisor. I asked again, quite calmly to speak to a more senior member of staff. He refused again so I asked his name, he ignored me 5 times, on my 6th attempt he said his name and said goodbye. I was shocked by their service, I don't know if i'm in the right about the estimate and their customer service has made me disgusted. I think I will pay this then leave them. My question is; am I in the right about the bill? Thanks for reading
  11. Hi All, i have lived in a property for 7 weeks now, i paid £595.00 deposit and £595.00 rent in advance.and was told the annual gas safety check was at the end of the month which would have been 3 weeks after we moved in,upon moving in there was a glass placed under the combi boiler to catch a "drip of water" which steadily got worse, anyway the end of the month came and went and still no plumber.I asked the landlord what was happening and was told the plumber was busy, this went on until last week a week ago the boiler stopped working altogether, i called the landlord who informed me they would get it sorted. they waited 5 days to call a plumber, who arrived yesterday, wiring not carried out by a proffessional was found inside and the boiler was not "room sealed" correctly, at this point i should say im epileptic and my fits have increased since living here. I asked the landlord to see the gas safety certificate which was in place when i moved in to which i got no reply, it turns out they didnt have one at all, the plumber is coming back today to sort the boiler so until he does i have no idea whether it was leaking CM. i have also asked about details of the rent deposit scheme to which i have also had no reply, i strongly suspect that my deposit has been used to pay their mortgage as the landlords lived in the property for 3 months prior to us moving in, the landlord was trying to get me to move in 3 days before i wanted to, and i stuck to my original date, they then said i had to pay the rent 4 days early to allow it to clear, which leads me to believe the mortgage is due 3 days before my rent, hence my bgelief they used my deposit to pay their mortgage, now the landlord has tried to say it must have been the previous tennant who got somone to bodge the boiler! and they didnt know until now, although how they know now i dont know and they cant explain, i feel really angry that they have let myself and my children stay in a property which is potentially unsafe, what should i do? thanks in advances Stewart McLean
  12. Hi guys I've been struggling to keep up with payments on my energy supplies recently and today decided to check my account to monitor my bills. I've noticed that for the period of Nov - Feb in 2012/13 they have charged me £750!!! I live in a 1 bedroom house, by myself - I have 1 heater on regularly. I flicked back through the bills and for the same period of Nov-Feb in 2011/12 they charged me roughly £300 - I noticed the tariffs have changed - what are my rights with this? It seems insane they can more than double your bill with a tariff change?!!? Advice is very much appreciated.
  13. I have been following some similar threads on this site but wondered if anyone has a definitive answer for me. I have been living in the same flat for over 10 years. When I brought the flat I rang the usual suspects in advance, in those days it was really just Scottish Power and British Gas, and was able to change over my electricity supplier but neither of these companies had any record of my new address as one they supplied with gas. In the process of moving I checked with the previous owner who confirmed that he had never received a gas bill. He left me a promisory note saying he would pay for the gas for the period he had lived there with the appropriate readings. I initially had every intention of sorting this out but one way or another have just left it and have received no bills whatsoever for Gas. One of the gas infrastructure companies even came into the property and disconnected and then reconnected the supply as part of upgrading the pipes leading to the property but at no time has anyone from a supply company communicated with me, taken a reading or sent me a bill. I am keen now to try to sort this out if at all possible and from the threads I have read I suspect that my meter is 'shipperless' but what I am keen to know is that if I successfully source an MPRN number and register with a supplier what my position might be in terms of back-billing. I have no record of my attempts to contact the obvious suppliers all those years ago as this was done by telephone and while I did not pursue the matter once the previous owner had told me of the situation, I did at least make initial contact with suppliers prior to moving in. They by contrast have never sent me a single bill. I am very conscious that I have a duty to pay for utilities and indeed have never defaulted on any other utility bill sent to me but the point here is that I at least made a little bit of effort to have bills sent to me for gas but to no avail. No gas supplier has ever sent me a bill for this property. All advice very gratefully received.
  14. Hello guys I'd be very grateful if someone could give me some direction. Yes, I've done the reading and I'm another sensible, level headed intelligent human being who has been duped into believing the lies these people spout. I'm very very cross with myself for falling into the trap and having sleepless nights over it - same old story I've read about. They have sent me the welcome pack with all the information in about the £400 cancellation fee (which wasn't mentioned in the telephone calls). My case however I think may be fairly easy to resolve - they have ALL my details correct apart from the company name which is one letter out and isn't actually a company at all and isn't registered with companies house. I have told them this during telephone conversations and that they shouldn't waste their time taking their case any further - they have however now 'completed' my registration process and tell me they will invoice me monthly for my gas once I have supplied them with an initial meter reading. What do I do - I'm thinking maybe some sort of formal communication telling them that the company they think they are dealing with doesn't operate from that address that I am nothing to do with said company and that my gas is supplied by someone else. Help please?? Thanks in advance
  15. Hoping someone can help, I had to move away from my home for a while due to work and a lodger moved in. He was supposed to be paying the Gas bill but wires got crossed and he set up a new account but there was apparently £382 outstanding when he took it over, I had always paid via dd so there had been no issues with the account. It appears BG sent some chasing letters and in January a threat of default action etc.. I did not get these letters and they clearly put a default on my account for the amount. I found out about this a week or so ago and sent them immediate payment in full which has cleared my account so I owe them nothing. I sent an e-mail to BG explaining what happened and asking them to remove the default. This is the e-mail I sent followed by their reply: Your enquiry ref: I can confirm that the above account is paid in full and the payment has cleared your account. I have been away from the address and had thought the account was up to date so apologise for the delay in response. As I did not receive any letters regarding this account I respectfully request that you remove the default you have placed on my account as a matter of urgency. As I am sure you are aware the amount was relatively small (£382.32) and as soon as I realised I had money outstanding I paid immediately, a default stays on a credit file for 6 years which seems extremely harsh for a clear oversight and such a small amount. I request that as a gesture of goodwill you can updated your records and the default that was placed on my credit record be removed. _________________________________________________ Hi Thanks for getting in touch. I've had a good look into the account for you-I'm afraid as the bill was very late being paid that the default and late payment fee will not be removed off the account. I understand that it is never nice to have fees and a mark against you for late payment .However as the timescale was a long time we are unable to remove the charge. Please contact us should you need any help in the future and thank you for contacting British Gas. Kind regards Christie Rees Energy Expert britishgas.co.uk - Looking after your world ____________________________________________________ Hi Christie, As I did not receive the letters you sent I do not feel it unreasonable to request the default be removed. To destroy a persons credit rating over such a small sum of money is criminal, I should hope as a fellow human being you would be able to appreciate that sometimes things happen beyond our control and to punish someone for such an oversight bearing in mind it has been completely rectified is extremely unfair. Please look into this matter further as I should hope a company such as British Gas that has had it's fair share of issues would on this occassion not wish to inflict such hardship on a customer. I know that you are easily able to remove the default you have placed should you wish. I do not owe British Gas any money whatsoever and there is no reason to leave such a negative impact on my life through some weird act of spite. Regards, ___________________________________________ Now, I'm pretty annoyed about this as you can probably tell and don't really like the way BG are 'Looking after my World' so I'm keen to hear peopls thoughts on what I do next. I'd like to take this matter to court as I feel the punishment does not fit the crime. I am being treated really badly, all that I've done is not received my post and to be quite honest I had just as well not bothered paying it as they've stuffed my credit profile anyway. Comments and advice please!
  16. i live in a mobile static home on my own there are 3 of them and the landlord has just given me a gas bill for 500 for a quarter which i think is discraceful he has split the bill in 3 the other 2 homes have 2 people in each but he says i have to pay the same as them i have my gas on for 6 hours a day i only have 3 small radiators and my hot water is on gas i do think this bill is very high how do i go about disputing it.
  17. Hi I am new to this - looking for urgent adivce, so if anyone has been through something similar I would much appreciate a reply. I have recieved 2 letters from 2 different debt collectors stating I owe 2 different balances totalling around £5000 over a period of 4 years from 2006 to 2010 from my previous property. They are claiming that they have no record of my gas bills during the time I lived in and owned the flat. One of the bills states I owe over £3000 for 1 year and the other £2300 for a period of 3 years - bare in mind this was a 2 bedroom flat. These dates however dont make sense as I sold the property in 2009 and moved to a different property. My issue is I have no record of any bills from this period, as like most people I keep correspondence for a total of a year or two and then shred it. I also have no bank records as I moved my accounts when I moved property in 2009. Firstly, can British Gas begin a debt claim after 6/7 years? They are stating without proof of payment on my behalf they will continue to contact me for the money. .but surely they have to prove I didn't pay? Help needed urgently as I am hoping to sell my current property and am very worried that this will have a negative impact on my fiancial credit rating. PLEASE HELP!
  18. can someone tell me if British gas should have informed me that they were increasing my monthly direct debit for gas I have both gas and electric with them paid separately by direct debit my electric payment comes out in a few days so i am just waiting to see if they increased that also without informing me I knew at some point they would have to put the direct debit up (I am not in arrears') because of the increase in prices but i am not happy that I wasn't informed before the payment increase
  19. Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me? I moved flats at the weekend and called Eon (who were my previous provider of both gas and electric) to notify them nd to get my final bill. I have been paying a monthly direct debit to them for the 4 years I have lived there. I had my gas meter reading - but was having difficulty accessing the cupboard which holds the electric meter. The girl I spoke to to said they could wait for the electiric. When I gace her my gas reading - she was confiused, and asked if I didn't use gas at the property - I said I did. Basically, the meter hadn't gone up since the last meter reading in September 2011. I explained that I had been paying the direct debit - which said on the front of the bill was for both gas and electric. She explained that if I read donw the bill (pages) then it showed that although I was paying a 'holding fee' for the gas - I whadn't paid anything for usage. I pointed out that this bill was regularly reviewed by them and nothing had been picked up their end either. I was also given a rebate last summer - which I called ot check was right - and was told it was because our usage was low. They are now tellin gme I will haev to pay a backdated fee of nearly £500 (based on an estimate because the mater hasn't been working) I want to know where i stand leaglly - as I feel like this is not entirely my fault as I thought I was covered in my direct debit. They also should surely have some responsibility over the maintenane of the meter? Please can anyone help and tell me where I stand? thanks
  20. Hi My daughter moved in to a property last September with 4 other tenants who all got on together. Two of the tenants, right at the beginning of the tenancy told that they would not be in the property for 3 months in Jan, Feb and March as they would be on placement. It was agreed that they pay the rent but not put towards the gas and electricity (apart from the standing charges). As they are all new to this my daughter came home for Easter not happy and unsure as to why the bill for Feb/Mar was £185 (one month) when all the others have been around £60 to £85. I looked in to this and all the months apart from the first one have been Estimated readings apart from the end reading of this high bill which is an Actual reading. I explained to her why and showed her all the previous months estimates and usage: GAS not inc VAT Period Previous Present Kwh Charges 19 Aug to 17 Sep 2012 9213 9219 A 67 £5.47 17 Sep to 18 Oct 2012 9219 A 9255 E 403 £24.46 18 Oct to 15 Nov 2012 9255 E 9322 E 750 £36.14 15 Nov to 18 Dec 2012 9322 E 9427 E 1175 £52.90 18 Dec to 17 Jan 2013 9427 E 9533 E 1186 £52.27 17 Jan to 14 Feb 2013 9533 E 9635 E 1142 £54.24 14 Feb to 13 Mar 2013 9635 E 9945 A 3478 £150.88 as you can see from above the usage in the above GAS (Electricity is separate which shows another £39 which makes it a total of £185) it is obvious that the last bill's usage should have really been split on the other bills as well if they had done the proper thing and given actual readings every month. My daughter now understands and she has text the two that have been away. We know that there is no proof but common sense and it is obvious from looking at the figures. All we have asked is for them to pay £35 each towards this bill and the rest of this year they will have to do proper readings. One of the girls said OK but the other one is just been silly. Texts from her saying that the readings shows that they have to pay £150, etc. etc. etc., and it is what has been used!!. Spouting on about how her mum is a landlady so she does understand !!!!! All we are asking is for a fair contribution of £35 from each of the two that have been away. If she does not pay would we have any grounds to take to small claims court. I know it sounds silly but it is principle. It is just a fair, common sense request for them to contribute. Thanks in advance Lisa
  21. For the last year I have had 3 debt collection agencies contact me in relation to a gas supply to a flat I moved out of in 2005. The gas bill of £111.44 is in relation to a period of 2006 to 2008. The previous 3 DCA's stopped contacting me after I provided a court order evicting me from the property, a letter from the landlord confirming my eviction agreeing full and final payment, and a letter that I wrote stating the same. It is really starting to wind me up now, and I have had a new debt collection agency contact me this week with another demand. How am I able to get this harassment to stop? Do I have grounds to sue for harassment? Any advice is appreciated. The latest DCA is Wescot Credit Services. Thanks, Steve
  22. Hi, Wondering if anyone might be able to give me some advice re. an amended final gas bill.... Left Atlantic Gas on Jan 25th 2012 after opening account in Dec 2011. Paid DD monthly gas payments throughout this period (£48). Spoke with them around Jan 25th '12 to explain was leaving, and they told me that there would be one final payment after which account would be closed. In March 2012 I was credited £32.96 by them. However, in June 2012 I received a bill which they say is based on actual readings from the period 17th Nov 2011 to Jan 25 2012. Apparently I owe £556 for my consumption during this 69 day period. What confuses me, is why I was credited in March - i.e., after 25 Jan which according to them was when the most up-to-date reading was given, yet the bill wasn't issued until June 2012. Why close the account without using most up-to-date information? What are my rights (if any) about this? Another aspect of the situation is that the period I received this final June bill is around the time that the account holder after me was settling her account because she was leaving the property. They initially charged her several hundred pounds for three months, which she contested and they reduced the bill by £80. She contested again and they revised the bill to £37 (for her entire use over 3.5 months). When she called to provide a final reading a week later they said she had spent £100 in the the course of a week (after an average expenditure of £10 / week for 3 months). She finally agreed to pay £137 for 3.5 months. After she had settled her account is when I received my June bill. This hasn't given me any confidence that the bill is calculated correctly - rather, it seems like they have a deficit and they are chasing anyone for it. Also the bill seems very high - even allowing for increased use during winter and rising gas prices. They have also agreed to lower the bill to £355 because I am disputing it - seems like a strange tactic if their charges are sound?! Any help, advice, suggestions etc would be very gratefully received. Thanks!
  23. really need some help. I have just moved in to a property with British Gas. There was some delay in getting electric connected so I complained. I am being told the Property has two mpans and British Gas don t support that. The property has a heat wise economy 10 meter. ( Even though british gas have supplied electric since 2009 they say they cant calculate ) I am also advised that they want to send back the supply to the previous supplier as an erogenous transfer to NPOWER ( i think ) from 2009 who do support Economy 10 with dual MPANS. The Meter has 5 Rates. THERE IS ANOTHER BIG PROBLEM The two MPANS have got crossed over. MPAN 1 Has R1,2,3 and MPAN 2 has R1,2. Rates 4 and 5 have not been taken in to account but i suspect should have been on one of the MPAN's. Theyt are going to try and bill for the same usage OMG ! British gas advise they cant bill this situation. Its been a month and i was told to get an electrician to check the MPANS. Is it really my responsibility. In addition if the MPANS have crossed over where do i stand. Id like a new meter as it scares me whats next. I used to live in the property a few years before ( long story ) and i was only on one MPAN ( Two Rates ) and the last resident a different MPAN. ( Three Rates ) and i can prove that R1 and R2 are the same on both MPANS ( Rate 3 does not move and R4 and R5 are well away from the sequence. In addition British gas supplied and billed me at this time so how can they now say they cant bill me as they have done for me previously and the last resident. I have been told old bills will be reworked and invoiced and cant stay with British gas. I thought dual MPAN with 1 meter was a logical thing no need for an electrician to check it. Ie there is not two physical supplies just a meter that has multi rates. Where do i stand and what can i do.....I would like British Gas to put in a new economy 7 meter i think. Ive spent hours on the phone and feel like i am getting no where. Also looks like they want to bill for the same electric. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME TACKLE THE CORPORATE COMPANY
  24. Help Please... We have had no gas since Friday 15th March. Contacted British Gas and they advised some one will arrive to check. Several call later they advised someone will arrive in the morning 16th to have a look and to do some relay or some sort. So no Gas/Heating etc all this time. Had grid personnel visit of Saturday and advised a company that was doing some work around the corner has stooped the gas to our property (no other property effected) and that they will contact them on Monday and get back to us. They gave us 3 portable heaters of which one has already stopped working and a mini electric cooker. This is not nearly enough to heat the house (3 Bed Semi) We had to buy extra heaters and food etc Where do I stand in terms of compensation etc? And what course of action should i take next? Thanks T
