  1. While going through an irritatingly slow and problematic remortgage, I had to get at two different times a mortgage statment printed by Abbey... Each time they charged me £50 for the privilege. Is this refundable? I've been reading up on the data protection act and not sure if this is enforcable either, has anybody had any experience with this?
  2. No, while we were away the letters arrived. One letter saying we had 14 days until it would automatically renew, I assumed if we were away it would expire if not automatically renew and then I'd renew with another company when I got back if that was the case. After the letter saying we had 14 days to renew, they tried to take a payment which didn't go through. So they then said we had 7 days until the policy was cancelled. When we got back after all this they said that we owed them £80 which covered the 21 days mentioned above even though this ws not authorised by us.
  3. I bought a Vauxhall Corsa from new, to keep it under guarantee I had to get it serviced at an authorised garage. Fair enough. However there was not one service below £230, I did a lot of mileage but it was only the usual stuff, oil change and wiper blades etc. One service cost £580 after the car was 2 years old - all it was was the service, some new wiper blades and two brake pads. I got in my car to find a greasy hand print on the ceiling. Despite some pretty heavy complaining I still ended up footing the bill. I'm starting to get more wound up by the times I have given in to things like this by shrugging my shoulders and handing over my debit card. I don't mind paying more for good workmanship - but I feel this was way above what it should have cost and the only reason was I was tied in to their garage to keep the guarantee valid.
  4. hi all, A while back my wife's policy was due to expire while we went away, the car was off road and I thought I'd sort it out when we got back. Anyway, the policy ended, a letter arrived saying that we had 14 days to cancel otherwise it would automatically renew. They couldn't take a payment as the card details they held on file had expired and we had to pay an £80 fine. Can I claim this back at all? I wouldn't mind it if I could!
  5. Hi this is my first post, I know how annoying it can be when people ask questions that have already been answered in articles and threads - however I have been here a while and the information available is overwhelming, sorry if this is a common question Just wondering if anybody has had any joy with Abbey Mortgages, I had a problem with setting up my direct debit from my HSBC current account and so I paid my mortgage on the day it was due to go out by going into the branch instead of by DD... I have since moved on from Abbey and I just found out that I was being charged a £25 fine each month as this method was technically a late payment as it took some time to clear. Am I able to follow the same procedures to get this money back too? Thanks
