  1. No, they haven't sent me a bill. But when I spoke to the guy on the phone a few days ago BEFORE I paid what I owed to the Council, there seemed to be a significant (I'm talking £100s) amount of extra charges added. That's why I rang the Council asking what I ACTUALLY owed, and paid them direct. This guy was trynna say I owe an extra 400 odd. Is that normal for them to add that much extra expense on?
  2. Ok, cool, thanks. I have only received 2 letters so far (I think). If the bailiff HAS visited more than 2 times, do I owe more, or can they ONLY charge for a max of 2 visits? What should I do now then? Wait for the bailiff to contact me, or contact them myself?
  3. Thanks for your help. I've paid the fees direct to the Council now and I'm covered til' March 31st 2013. What are the lawful bailiff fees? They're still sending me letters informing me of BAILIFF REMOVALS and such, even though the liability order has been dealt with direct to the Council.
  4. If that's true, that's a load off my shoulders. Thanks. I've just been scouring these forums for the last couple hours reading all these horror stories. Hopefully it'll be alright now then. Is the £24.50 the only possible fee I'll have to pay for definite?
  5. Ok, earlier today I was in a bit of a worry because of this Equita bailiff notification I received due to Council Tax money I owe. I made the mistake of ringing the MOBILE number given on the letter. The guy told me I owed certain amounts which I thought were massively disproportionate. He wanted to pop round mine to 'discuss the debts.' So I decided to leave that, because it felt dodgy. I rang Manchester City Council (whom I had called earlier and they had told me to contact the bailiff, which I'd done, unfortunately) and said I wanted to pay what I owe. I paid the sum to the Council, got my receipt reference number and whatnot. So the KEY debt is out the way. However, I go downstairs (I live in an apartment block) to go to the shop and find a NEW hand delivered letter by the door from the same guy I'd spoken to on the phone before. It reads like this: "BAILIFF REMOVAL Payment due in full - 24 hours I have attended today with the intention of removing your goods and chattels as are necessary to discharge the outstanding Council Tax Liability Order and any additional ENFORCEMENT COSTS incurred. No further arrangements are acceptable and payment is required in full in clear funds only. I will re-attend at your address with immediate effect and may REMOVE goods even in your absense. Should you wish to avoid this distressing course of action, contact me immediately on the telephone number below to arrange prompt payment of your debt. No contact will be taken as your refusal to pay." --- I've paid my Council Tax debt now though! What do I owe to to these bailiffs? Phantom visits? The guy didn't even ring my apartment buzzer. What course of action should I take to resolve this?
  6. Hi, I owe a certain amount (unknown exactly to me at present) for Council Tax. I rang Manchester City Council today and they told me the account has been passed on to bailiffs. I have received letters from Equita Certificated Bailiffs informing me I owe £537.95 for December 6th 2011 - March 31st 2012 and £898.58 for the current year. Obviously, these have the bailiffs fees added on top I presume? I rang the bailiffs in question and the guy I spoke to urged me to pay up quickly. Should I?! Do I have to pay my Council Tax arrears through the bailiffs now, or can I pay on the Manchester City Council website and then settle up whatever fees with the bailiffs after? I was reading through a similar thread to this whereby people were saying the bailiffs can only charge you for two visits? What exactly are the bailiffs entitled to? If I just pay what I owe to the council will the bailiffs go away? I have supposedly received visits from them but have never been in when they've called round. Hope someone can help me! I don't want to be paying what I don't need to.
