  1. Tear the bottom off the bill, write on your address and tell them to post you a correct bill. I've known places where staff refuse tips cos it's not company policy. And there's the other problem - why give it the waiting staff when the cook should get it ? I'm more likely to tip for the fantastickness of the food than how swishly it was delivered to the table.
  2. Who's a big softie Service charge (that you didn't get) on the bill ? So the bill's wrong - and in such cases, you don't have to pay it - until they've sorted it out.
  3. 1. I think employees' contracts should explain tipping arrangements. 2. Tipping arrangements should be printed on menus. Pricing should be for consumables & nothing further should be added (e.g. service charge). I rarely tip. If I do, it's usually in the form of not accepting my change. My most significant 'tip' was to the lifeguards at a pool - having witnessed them pull a man out of the pool and revive him. Mike.
  4. Consider also the idea of wearing a medic-alert metal bracelet - fire resistant and can point medics to a website which is easier to maintain than a paper data sheet.
  5. Ahh, got it I've been working on this very subject recently and have consulted hospital A+E and paramedics - so thought it worth comparing notes ! So here's my feedback: Missing info: Religious beliefs/interference: (e.g. Jahovah's Witnesses refuse blood transfusions, I think) Allergies: meds, foods, environment (allergies listed but prompts for the 3 types would be useful) DNR status: (indicate if you don't want to be resuscitated - also any other medical treatment preferences) current medical conditions + history (the form partly covers this but clarity between current and past is noteworthy) Current meds, prescribed, otc, homeopathic, recently taken (Again, meds come from all directions and can be important - include med name, strength & dose & why you take it) Implants: equipment, metals (metals in case they consider MRI scan) Organ donor card / register (Is the person registered ?) NHS No. (They'd really appreciate this) Next of kin - if that's 'primary/secondary contacts', clarity re next of kin needs to be clear as relatives will get different treatment People and Pets: Any people or pets that rely on you Re any hospitalisations & treatments, probably worth including where it was done. Perhaps you'd consider adding in some or all of these suggestions ? I hope that's helpful.
  6. Please let me know when it's available again, thanks.
  7. Just looking at medic-alert type things now. I've decided to go for the bracelet as it's easiest to access for medics. Also metal i.e. stainless steel - to make it reasonably fire proof. However, All I'm going to put on it is how to get the info, not the info itself. The info is on a web site - so globally accessible and easy for me to keep completely up to date. To access the info, they'll be instructed to e-mail me using a 'password' in the subject line to trigger an auto reply containing the link to the web page. The auto process will also only respond to certain e-addresses such as *.nhs.uk and *.nhs.net - so that the location isn't given to just anyone. Mike.
  8. Well that's just brilliant NOT ! We never get anonymous calls as they're blocked - so now I'm forced into having calls I don't want ! A clear victory for the cold-callers (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((
  9. Hi all, Is there any truth in the rumour (English law) that a court won't convict on the evidence of a sole witness ? Also, is there any truth in the rumour that witnesses must be independent - i.e. ruling out 3 close members of a family effectively being 3 witnesses rather than 1 ? Mike.
  10. That's a thought - new thread time....
  11. Wouldn't it just be better to remove the timeout?
  12. That's what I was informed when attempting to send a response - and the message vanished. Couldn't be bothered to type it out again.
  13. What's with tokens expiring and loss of message?
  14. Keep everyone confused - it's the sort of thing I do and I keep getting told not to ! "1 e-mail for 1 issue".
  15. That's another odd thing - no bill, just a letter. I've tried inquest.org last year but I've not had anything useful out of them. That sadly is common - not just of Inquest but all sorts of orgs that claim to offer help!
  16. Bro and I were LPAs and we didn't instruct ! Nor were we aware anyone else did. Nor are we aware any solicitors did anything for Mum. So we'll just leave it and see if they contact us again and if they come up with some hard evidence. As I've said, it's totally bizarre that a firm of solicitors would do anything prior to payment if they needed a payment !
  17. I'll leave it to see if they get in touch again - no point in poking a bomb !
  18. Hi, Mum hated being in State Detention (SD) so much, she committed suicide in July 2015; she starved herself to death by refusing food, drink and medication. According to the Coroners and Justice Act 2009, a death in SD automatically triggers an inquest. It would also seem that such an inquest will have a jury. It also seems where a death is a result of being in SD, an 'Article 2' inquest should be held. I asked the coroner for both jury and article 2 - and he's refused on both counts. What can I do to challenge this ? On the basis of his decision(s) it would appear he's decided the outcome of the inquest prior to it ! I'm a bit baffled and your thoughts and guidance would be appreciated, thanks. Mike.
  19. Hi All, This is mostly for info - and comment Mum killed herself in July 2015 - dying on the 26th. On 19th Nov, we received a letter from a firm of solicitors claiming to have acted for Mum and hence seeking a payment from us of £573. The letter asks for our agreement to pay within 14 days ("accept our costs" ) or it'll take the matter to court. The first odd thing about this is that it's the first time I've come across solicitors doing work before getting their sticky fingers on money first. The second odd thing is that we're not aware of any solicitors doing work for Mum. Why should we 'accept their costs' ? we surely may accept Mum's costs, but not theirs!!! I just forwarded the letter to the SRA and stated that we're unaware of the firm and that no contract exists between them and our family. We have not heard from the solicitors again. Are we likely to ? Mike.
  20. And for my next trick.... Block all numbers - and for those that want to contact me, they'll have to pay me [£5] to unblock their number for the year. Same next year ! - except fam & friends ! Mike.
  21. Time Govt insisted telcos provided subscribers with free call-blocking service. We have a cheap but effective call-blocker which I'm gradually 'tightening the screws' on. Any unwanted calls now and I block the whole originating 'city'. (area code) Mike.
