  1. Hi Alison, Thanks for your advise; It is actually the "difficult" ones tantrum that has led us down this road, originally when the new rota was done, they said & I quote " if she doesn't like it then she can leave" because she's had this tantrum they have back tracked for reasons unknown She's remiss in her duties & thinks she can dictate what's going to happen. I've been told the manager left us a note Friday night to tell us of the "new" rota change & that it is to start this Monday, so we've had no consultation with management or been formally told, I've spoken to the other two & we are currently writing a grievance
  2. Hi grumpytisaytheleast, Me & this "difficult" one are on the same pay grade (totally different jobs) Two are catering assistants 5/7 & 1 weekend staff (who happens to be "difficult" ones daughter) From what I've been told is she told the manager she would have to leave as she couldn't do those hours, as she has her granddaughter but we all know that she doesn't have her every weekend - she's only expected to do 1 in 4 which isn't unreasonable especially when everyone else is doing the same The other catering staff have kids & grand kids too, but as we have a rolling rota they work round us, not us round them. She is also "retired" & tells us pretty much every week "I don't need to be here" & "I don't need to work" "I'm just here for extra spending money"
  3. Good afternoon, I'm after some work related advise; I work in a kitchen with four other people - 4 of us have "contracts" that are 5/7 & 1 is a weekend worker- Over the last three months 3 of us have changed our rota to meet the needs of the business - mixed shifts / later shifts & also 1 weekend in three - the fourth person that has a 5/7 contract has now point blank refused to do the same & apparently has said "she'll leave & she can't do weekends or late shifts" now we are at a stage were the three of us are really ****ed off due to this person, while we've bent over backwards to "meet the needs of the business" she is getting away with dictating what she will & won't work, so we are after some advise on how to handle this situation with our management, We are considering also putting in a grievance regarding this colleague due to the state she leaves the place in half of our paperwork is legal requirements which she is not filling in & also talking to us on several occasions in a not very nice manner, she doesn't clean down & does as little as possible When she started there, over a year ago I make several verbal complaints about her standards & also documented the state of the kitchen with pictures in an email - we have all recently taken photos again about the state of the kitchen so we have some "evidence" again after some advise on how to deal with the situation as a whole
  4. Hi everyone, Yes I am an employee (not self-employed) The contract thing - after we had been there for a year they issued everyone with a contract they were all wrong so no one signed them, for them to be issued twice more again all wrong, so again I didn't sign mine but have raised the issue with the contract & the management are fully aware, also no staff handbook, never seen one & never been given one... Nor has anyone else
  5. Hi sabre sheep, Well the other part of this is that there is another colleague who is classed as the same as me, I've been told her shift pattern won't be changing! Which I feel if the change is needed then it should be across the board not just me having to change my shifts I feel it is unfair.
  6. Hi all,I have yet another issue at work! The last one was a return to work issue, had some earache from new manager over some stuff that had gone on/ bull**** but everything fine on that front & currently back at work! So in this return to work, I was basically told I now have to move from a mon-fri :am shift to mixed shifts 5/7 & would like to know where I stand, I've been there 1 year & 4 months, I have no contract (they have sent 3 out up to press all wrong so not signed or returned) I was told in my initial interview prodomently mon - fri, 7-3's which is what I do (we are now onto our third manager & have nothing in writing) Would applicate any advise
  7. Hi emmzzi, Thanks for your reply Well I guess I'll find out Wednesday x
  8. Hi peterm41, Thanks for you reply Yeah trying not to worry but I've seen how they've treated others there too… Just find it funny that it was ok to return this morning but by 4pm it wasn't & that I'm not actually going to be in work beforehand.... I've an appointment at 1.30pm with the manager……
  9. I emailed them this morning to say I would be back tomorrow, have been off sick… the 1st person who replied said that was fine glad ur better… then recieved a call several hours later from another person, she said I couldn't return to work, till I had had a return to work interview with the manager. Like I've said in previous post I've never heard of any company doing this, it's normally done on the day you say ur going to return (if at all) maybe I'm reading too much into it? But I find it very strange that they would do this especially as this morning everything was fine for me to return tomorrow, now I have to have a meeting to return which by the way didn't mention earlier but it's not till 1.30pm (I work early shifts so obviously not working Wednesday either)
  10. Hi turbo guru Thanks for the reply; It's an independent business (80 staff max) & no one had had one to my knowledge... I've worked there over a year & never seen or been given a staff handbook or had access to one is in regards to following a "procedure" (like me emailing not ringing) Would they be able to make a big issue of it? The place has only been open since October 2013, were onto our third manager already, apparently she said in a staff meeting (which I did not attend) that she would be "cracking down" on sickness (this is my 1st absence in 10+ months) I know other members of staff have been off but none of them mentioned any sort of rtw interview or had one?
  11. Hi all, Just a quick question; I've been off work for two weeks & wanted to rtw tomorrow, (I've worked there just over a year) not had any warnings / been late ect) Despite being told that was fine this morning I've just been phone by another person & told I cant rtw till I've been interviewed & an appointment has been made for Wednesday with the manager..… I've never heard of anywhere I've worked doing this… anyone else heard of this? Only thing I can think of that might be an issue is that I've emailed them whilst I've been sick (to let them know I was going to dr's & that I would be off, also let them know what was wrong/what was going on next dr's appointment ect) emailing was easier than trying to ring as no one answers the phone & meant I had proof I'd been in contact Thanks for any help x
  12. That's mad! Lol So what's the point in probationary periods if they can do what they want dispite how long you have worked there? Thanks guys appreciate your help / advise
  13. Good morning all, Think I've posted in right place? So my issue is work related; The company I work for is a private company We have worked here since October last year & we had to complete 3 month probationary period, which has now since past, hardly any staff have had a review (myself included) since the end of the probationary period, I need to know where we stand from a legal point of view in regards to dismissals & sackings They have sacked a few people recently due to poor performance / attitude etc Yet surely if there were these issue they would have to give you warnings / re training etc? Seems to me that they just do what they want but I know there are certain procedures they should follow? Hope this makes sense? Nic
  14. Hi all,D X , yes u read it right, even after I have supplied right address!!! Hi Andy, so how do I solve the issue? Many thanks x
