Simon can i ask you if DCA's are under any obligation to prove to you that the information they provide is correct or are you happy to take their word for it?- 6 replies

Thanks for that reply Silverfox at least now i have a starting point.I have looked at my Equifax file and a DCA has added another default that is going to expire in 7 months.I suppose now i have to make a decision whether to just leave if for now as the 2 defaults expiring in 4 and 7 months respectively will fall off my file soon enough or send the DCA's a prove it letter.I wonder if it is better to just let sleeping dogs lie? However it would seem they have been alerted to me already.Does anyone think the DCA's think they have a realistic chance of getting anything out of me or are they just clutching at straws?

No of course they dont.Well they have to fund those large bonuses after all:violin:

How did that go mate?I have got exactly the same thing going on -
Hello all this is my first post here and i would appreciate some help.a few months ago i recieved a letter out of the blue from HILLESDEN SECURITIES asking me to contact them.about 6 years ago i had loads of debt i couldnt pay and moved abroad.I am back in the uk now and havent had credit for nearly 6 years.anyway i joined experian about a year ago and got on the electoral roll for the first time recently. It may just be a coincidence that almost immediately after geting on the electoral roll i got this letter.Anyway i ignored this letter.I moved house about 2 months ago and for the first time in nearly 6 years applied for a credit card and got one.I checked my credit file today and HILLESDEN SECURITIES have made an entry on my credit file that i defaulted on a halifax credit card for 5 1/2 grand.the date of default was 5 years and 7 months ago.they entered it at my last address where i had only lived for 5 months of this year.i also looked at my linked addresses and they have posted tons of stuff from where i lived years ago which i think is going to open up shedloads of trouble with lenders from the past.I have checked my equifax report and there are 3 more defaults on there that do not show up on my Experian report all linked to where i lived 6 years ago.My questions are: 1.is it worth me contacting them seeing as how the default will expire in 5 months 2 Are they allowed to just enter information on my file without speaking to me first? 3 I was thinking of contacting them and saying i have no idea what they are talking about, have no knowledge of the debt and they must have me mixed up with someone else.Is this adviseable? 4 What adverse affect will this default have on me applying for credit,is it as bad as a CCJ? 5 Can anyone apply for a CCJ for debts this old? 6 Can i ask Experian /Equifax to remove this information as i believe it to be incorrect and until it is resolved i do not wish to suffer any adverse effects from it? 7 Has anyone got any other advice on how to proceed? Many thanks in advance
