I have a loan with Santander, and pay a set amount per month via Direct Debit.
I was out of work at the start of this year and missed the first of those payments, and was contacted by them asking what was happening. I explained I was out of work, but would pay some funds in.
A month later I get a call saying a 2nd payment had failed to be collected, and the Direct Debit had been cancelled. I asked by whom, and they said they did it, and it was because I did not pay the amount.
I tried to explain that the Direct Debit is an agreement between the 2 of us, but this person said, it was cancelled, as was the agreement, and could I pay the amount outstanding. I said no, and I wanted to know when, and by whom the Direct Debit, and agreement had been cancelled. They said it would take 7 days to send this out. This was in March - still not received to this date. I then received a call in Apeil saying a 3rd payment had been missed. I said obviously as the Direct Debit had been cancelled, and they said no, it was still in place, as was the agreement. I asked her to check the records on the system, and what do you know - no record from the previous person.
She said when could I repay the amount. I said I would pay £500 per month to clear the amount. She said that was unacceptable, and calls will continue.
Today I get a letter from Wescot stating I owe them the amount outstanding.
As I have no agreement with them, and I have no asked for my details to be passed to them, what can I do ?
Have dealt with Wescot in the past, and I know how devious they can be.
