  1. Me again. Just to give you the update Merseyrail's actions. They haven't responded to my very nice letter to them (shame, a lot of thought went into that) but they have cashed my cheque for £25. I am taking this as matter closed - as they can't cash my cheque AND take it further (can they??), but it would have been nice to have something from them to conclude the matter. Anyway 6 months after the incident will be Feb 13th, and it'll all be out of my hair forever more. (hopefully they may have realised that in this case, that the fact I had taken my shoes off could have led to things not quite being black and white in front of a magistrate, added to the fact that I got no prior - please take your feet off the seat.) Moral of this story - I was a silly girl and have learnt my lesson......

  3. I've already commented on a similar thread, and wish to Thank Idependant Lady for her experiences. I have written to Merseyrail with my version of the events. I too have advised that I will not sign their reprimand, as i was unaware that what I had done is commited a breach of a by law, and offered to pay £25 for their administration costs in writing to me. My feet were on the seat, not the frame, but as my trousers are so long they would touch the floor if I didn't have my heels on, and the shoes were still on the floor (so in effect all that was on the seat was my trousers - albeit, the ankle end) If I had a short skirt on then my bum end could have had more skin on the seat! I am happy to make these comments to a magistrate, but feel that my next comment may just nark them enough to throw the book at me.... If they don't want bits of people touching thier seats that could cause damage, then maybe they should remove all seats from their carriages - make everyone stand - there would be far more capacity on the trains. Soggy Coats, umbrellas, shopping bags, zips catching, children on the seats, short skirts, binkinis (yes - go to freshfield in the summer, and you too could see the joys that come off the beach).
  4. 10 weeks on, and Merseyrail respond. I have been sent a letter by a prosecutor, advising me that I have been caught for a cuationable offence and if I pay them £50 in the next 2 weeks they will leave it at that, but keep a record of me for thenext 3 years, in case I get in trouble again!!!! No chance to give my account, no 'this is the place to send a dispute to' - just accept your reprimand and pay, or go to court. As I have 2 weeks, I will make the most of them. A letter will be going to the prosecutor giving my side of the account, and my letter to Merseyrail - which rather unsuprisingly went unacknowledged. I'll keep the board posted further....
  5. Thanks Stigy & Old-CodJA - lesson thoroughly learnt, and will not be repeated. Am pre-empting their letter with one of my own, as I won't remember the facts of the matter when they finally get round to writing to me. Will let you (and any future readers who are caught this way) know what happens.....
  6. I have just been got by one of the little hitler's on the train with my feet up. I admit to the charge, and agree with many of the posts here. I am not a fan on feet on seats, but have been cautioned for the same offence. My circumstances - late on a friday night, and the officer managed to nearly remove my hand from my arm in the door to the train in her haste to get to me. Myself, and a friend had been out for the evening and I had taken my shoes off to rest my feet. I had been wearing 4 inch heels and my feet were killing me. My trousers are long enough, that there was little if not none of my feet actually on the seat, more like my trousers on the seat (and if the sweaty bit at the top of my legs doesn't offend the average commuter, why should the pedicured and clean heel of my foot) If i'd been wearing hot pants, or a very short skirt - both in favour this summer, then there could have been far more worrying things going onto the seat than a set of clean feet! As for doing this at home, I have a foot stool for my feet, and said same feet are resting on it now. I - by habit sit on my feet or have them up, sorry, it's just something I do, but would not do if they were scummy. The train was virtually empty - I would not take up a seat when some else could sit there - jeepers, I may be in the minority, but have actually given up my seat sometimes for those who need it more. I do not like seeing people with their shoes on the seat - it's the chaps who fall asleep anwith their work boots on that get me, and deliberately left my shoes where they belong - ON THE FLOOR. TomJdavies - please let us know how it goes. I was told it' take 6-8 weeks to process, so you may well have a response sometime soon. Good luck - I'm glad I'm not the only stupid decent person out there. But just one point, where are the officers when I need them because the group of youths in my carriage has decided to start harassing everyone, or throwing their beer around, or smoking. They're nowhere to be seen.
