I have just been got by one of the little hitler's on the train with my feet up. I admit to the charge, and agree with many of the posts here. I am not a fan on feet on seats, but have been cautioned for the same offence.
My circumstances - late on a friday night, and the officer managed to nearly remove my hand from my arm in the door to the train in her haste to get to me. Myself, and a friend had been out for the evening and I had taken my shoes off to rest my feet. I had been wearing 4 inch heels and my feet were killing me. My trousers are long enough, that there was little if not none of my feet actually on the seat, more like my trousers on the seat (and if the sweaty bit at the top of my legs doesn't offend the average commuter, why should the pedicured and clean heel of my foot) If i'd been wearing hot pants, or a very short skirt - both in favour this summer, then there could have been far more worrying things going onto the seat than a set of clean feet!
As for doing this at home, I have a foot stool for my feet, and said same feet are resting on it now. I - by habit sit on my feet or have them up, sorry, it's just something I do, but would not do if they were scummy.
The train was virtually empty - I would not take up a seat when some else could sit there - jeepers, I may be in the minority, but have actually given up my seat sometimes for those who need it more. I do not like seeing people with their shoes on the seat - it's the chaps who fall asleep anwith their work boots on that get me, and deliberately left my shoes where they belong - ON THE FLOOR. TomJdavies - please let us know how it goes. I was told it' take 6-8 weeks to process, so you may well have a response sometime soon. Good luck - I'm glad I'm not the only stupid decent person out there.
But just one point, where are the officers when I need them because the group of youths in my carriage has decided to start harassing everyone, or throwing their beer around, or smoking. They're nowhere to be seen.
