  1. That's you answer DB. If they have it as a 4 dial meter, you will be being billed as an imperial meter, although that would be compensated for somewhat, by the absence of the 5th digit, meaning your reads are reduced too. Is the last digit in red on the meter? If it is, then you are definitely being billed wrongly as your read would only have 4 digits anyway, so in effect would be 01482. Do your bills say cubic meters or cubic feet?
  2. Hi Matt. The general rule is that they can only bill you for the last 12 moths if the error is their's. Have you established that the company "not billing" you are actually your supplier? There's so much dodgy stuff that goes on. In any event the rule still applies. You cannot be billed back further than 12 months, unless you're on a prepayment meter.
  3. A few weeks ago I received a fishing letter from Equidebt. No details were given just a debt asking if the occupants of the address could help. I ignored it of course, but I have now had a letter fro MH about "failure to respond". They say they have established a "financial link" between this address & a previuous one. (of course they have they are probably right!). They are unaware of any legitimate reasons for non payment & have been instructed to collect this debt. I have no idea what the debt is however just Equidebt. Question is, do I continue to ignore the letters, since they obviously aren't sure it's me, or should I try to find out where the debt came from by sending a letter back?
  4. hi Guys, thought I'd ask for a little advice. I have recently received letters from GPB saying that my payments have been late. I pay Equidebt £25 per month by direct debit. They are now saying that I should stop paying Equidebt as they have changed their system & should instead pay them directly. Does this sound right? I am just worried that they may be pulling a fast one on me. I can't link the account number they give to the equidebt one & that makes me suspicious I might be being entrapped into another debt.
  5. This is something I noticed. I work for another supplier, but I was surprised when I did a stint in prepayments, by how many customers in the old Eastern electric area were on E7 meters that clearly weren't in their benefit. Seemed to me as though Eastern just installed E7 meters whatever. I assume that most of their credit customers are the same.
  6. That's very thourough of you Scuzzie! I wish i had such good customers when I was billing! Your figures look OK to me & I would have billed it exactly as you asked. Incidentally, as you were going from prepayment to credit, the fact that they have the date of the meter change earlier than it was, is probably in your favour, as you won't be charged the daily standing charge for that period. As always, the best tip if you're getting nowhere is to ask to speak to a manager, this immediately gets you into the internal complaints procedure & usually gets you quicker action, from better people.
  7. Thanks for the replies all. I think the mistake I made was paying off 3 completely as this left me £200 per month better off. Of the others 1 is a bank loan which I still pay to barclays under a CCJ at £30 pm, there is still around £2,500 owing on that & I intend to increase the payments as I recently finished paying the CCJ on my overedraft with them which was £37 pm. The others are credit cards all 3 with DCAs. i only pay £25 per month on each. The one that I have just started to be chased again for by equidebt is for £1700 but they provide no details of the original creditor. I think it maybe connected to a debt they tried before, which was then listed as "Goldfish Bank". Since I had never had an account with them I have always denied all knowledge, although I suspect it might be for another card. Did Goldfish buy anyone out? This is the one I now think they are on about. As I'm new, a quick question, can I sent these CCA requests to all of those I am paying (except the bank), I rather thought I'd amdmitted liability by paying?
  8. Hi all. I'm a new member but need some advice. I got into a lot of debt many years ago, but have tried to pay it off. Initially through the CCCS but after that failed through ill health, independently. A few months ago, following the death of my father, I came into a modest amount of money, less than £5000, but decided to use it to pay off some of the more costly debts I had, to improve my monthly position. Since then I seem to have been inundated with letters from other creditors, who I am still paying, asking for all sorts & 1 particularly from a debt I have never acknowledged & to which I pay nothing, who are now up to the old court tricks & getting quite threatening. has anyone else experiened this, where paying stuff off makes things worse?
