  4. Can u claim on a closed credit card account? I tried last year to get back £120 from MINT, and they refused and due to work I didn't have the time to follow it up. I have no paid off and closed the card - although I am like 5p in credit to them . Can I still try AGAIN to claim the money back. And if they refuse will I just go the to Ombudsman? Or should I just go straight in with that, but last letter was from around 9 months ago! I did think £120 was not a lot of money but now I am thinking otherwise!
  5. I sent letter 2 over 14 working days ago (july 20th) and havent heard anything back yet. Giving them till tomorrow then calling them - AGAIN!
  6. Congradulations!!! I am trying to get back about £120 and they have said NO and NO again!!
  7. I see that monthly interest rates have gone up from 1.456 to 1.597 for purchases, balance transfers and money transfers and from 1.741 to 1.873 for cash advances. I get the feeling that this is to cover they payouts and reductions in charges as funny how they have all lowered them to £12 as well. Its outrageous My natwest Mastercard is now 19.164% APR (22.467% for cash advances) I hope they come down on over the top interest rates soon!!
  8. Got a letter today from Mint 3 weeks after I sent the initial letter. It reads: I am sorry you have found cause to contact us regarding default charges that have been applied to your account, however I welcome the opportunity to address the issues you have raised. MINT has always been to committed to ensuring that customers understand our charges and fee levels, which were clearly and consistently communicated to our customers as part of our published tariff of charges. Whilst we disagree with the Office of Fair Tradings's legal position on credit card default charges, we have loweverd our late payment and over limit fees for credit cards to £12 with effect from 28th June 2006. However, it is not our policy to refund late payment or over limit fees that were cahrges previouslt at a higher level at the time that the fee wa incurred and therefore all previous charges will stand. Miss B**, I trust my letter to you has clarified our position. If after 8 weeks from the date of this letter you remain dissatisfied then you can refer your case to teh Financial Ombudsman Service. A leaflet was sent to you on 5th June explaining how the Ombudsman works and providing contact details. Yours Sincerely Scarlett Kemp It was only for like £120, should I persue it? ***Have sent of stage 2 letter anyway as couldnt find anything else that told me what to do!!!***
  9. I just got the standard 'yeah right no way' letter from the wonderful mr higley, so letter #2 in the post today. They h ave sent my Credit card one on to some other dept. Thye are only for like £70 and £90.
  10. Sent off 1st letter last Thursday - and no reply so far. Have had a reply from Natwest RE both CC AND Bank. Do mint generally cos some hastle?
  11. Got the standard reply from the not so talented Mr Higley! Dear xxxx Thank you for your letter of 22 une 2006 and I appologise for any dissatisfaction caused by the application of charges to yoru account. We believe that out chareges are fair, reasonable and transparent. We consider that the amounts debited to your account have been applied strictly in accordance with your agreement with us and our published tariff which we are satisfied complies with all applicable laws an regualtions. We are also commited to ensuring the transparency of the information that we give to our customers about teh operation of our products. We have considered the Office of Fair Trading's statement of 5 April 2006 and do not accept its findings in relation to the settling of credit card fees. We are cincerned that the Office of Fair Trading had publicly called into question the setting of charges applied to other products, including current accounts. The office of Fair trading had restricted its investigation to cradit cards and made no attempt to consult the RBS Group or the industry in relation to other entirely different products. Consequently, against that background, we must differ with the views you have expressed and will not be refunding any of the charges applied to your bank account. Having reviewed your account, I can find no instance where charges have been applied when they were not properly due. They have all been associated with a lack of covering funds in teh account at the tine items were presented for payment. Accordingly, the charges that have been applied to your account must stand. I am disappointed to note that you are contemplating legal action against the bank. Whilst I hope you will feel able to reconsider, should you decide to go ahead, please ensure that any proceedings are served on our registered office address, which appears at teh foot of this letter. I suspect that this is unlikely to be the answer you might have hoped to receive but nonetheless thank you for takingthe time and trouble to contact us. Yours Sincerely Stuart Higley .................................... It was only for £70! What I dont get is that some people are getting offered refunds of MORE than they were trying to claim?!! Eh? So going to send letter #2 tomorrow!! Not heard from them regarding my Credit card except that they have passed it on to the relevant dept. How long should I give them to reply now? I'm not holding out much hope now!
  12. Have just sent off my letter to MINT for the sum of £140. Finger and toes crossed. They sound like they have been tough tot get anythign from?
  13. I have had a look throught he site(but due to lunch hour restrictions cant look tooo thoroughly). All very VERY helpful and greatly appreciated. But I just wanted to know if legally they HAVE to refund the charges? All my claims will be for under £150(3 in total) I have read that more and more people are being told to naff off, and given 'token' refund jestures. My gripe is that one of my claims is only £70, and i dont want to have to pay(and lose) money to take it further as a small claim(im in scotland). Do they get more scared when you send the 2nd letter (i think there was one about reporting them to the OFT?) And how much do they get charged when tey are reported? I am just starting to feel like its never going to work.
  14. I have just printed off my letters and they ar ein the mail 1st thing tomorrow! Claiming £70 for Bank account and £90 for Credit Card Overlimit Fees. Really nervous as it now looks like lots of people arent getting their monry back!!
  15. I am this very moment witing up my letter to MINT - The one from teh Govan Law Center website. I only have £120 in late payment fees and over limit fees. But honestly, what are the chances of getting this back? It seems that they put up quite a fight, but why as i thought that if you dispute it to the OFT it cost them £370 whether they win or not? And one out there been successful with Mint?
