  1. 70% of what? Your initial response or mine? We each have a unique response to the vaccine or natural infection. And what do they mean by 'protection'? We've been told from the start that the vaccines don't stop infection, only serious disease.
  2. Where required so definitely yes on the tube and anywhere others would be uncomfortable if I didn't. Not so much in the theatre or in bars and restaurants. Shops? Depends where. I was the only customer in a warehouse style shoe shop the other week so I took it off to browse.
  3. Have to say TJ, considering the way I've embraced life since 'freedom day' I'm a bit surprised I have yet to get Covid. I've been on public transport, in full West End theatres, local theatres, been in bars, eaten out in crowded restaurants etc. etc. I've tested roughly every other day and so far still clear. Much as I'd still appreciate a shot of Pfiser, I have to suppose the AZ is doing a reasonable job.
  4. Our group now run half the surgeries in the county and pull everyone in on one Saturday to queue for hours round the streets of one surgery. I sure as hell wasn't going to risk that. Couldn't get a slot because of the above. Too many trying for that option.
  5. Gratifying to know as I am getting quite concerned as to how many different vaccines I'd want to take at once. It is looking a bit like desperation that every possible vaccine will be offered more widely than before. It does look as though Covid boosters may be more targeted now so that would take one off the table - maybe. OH and I didn't do flu jabs last year. We judged the risk of going to a mass vaccination session at our surgery (which is always badly run) outweighed the risk of flu considering we didn't go out.
  6. Great fun. I have kept the Windows scammers going for ages on how I was perfectly happy with my new triple glazing and I'm very annoyed if it needs repair so soon.
  7. That's something should always have been in place anyway so I'd be delighted to see it happen. Won't in the real world though. One of the things I'd have loved to see come out of this pandemic is a rebalancing of power between employers and workers, maybe I should say between bad employers and workers. Whereas it does appear to be happening in some sectors which are currently experiencing a shortage of labour, sadly i don't see it lasting.
  8. Are those infection rates translating into serious disease and deaths at previous rates? If not then surely vaccination is making some difference.
  9. Maybe because proof of being antibody +ve is an alternative to vaccination status for entry into venues etc. And with my cynical head on, they can then claim it isn't so important that they've failed to persuade so many into vaccination. I have noticed a subtle shift from vaccinations to being antibody +ve as the important figure in the media.
  10. So is this calculated per room or for the whole building or per business if a company doesn't occupy the whole building? Serious question. Does it rely on floor space so if a business has meeting rooms which are not normally occupied as office space can visitors not be temporarily accommodated in them for meetings? Even if a visitor does cause a breach does that really mean employees have to work from home? Very few visitors to a business are there for a whole day, surely an early lunch break for a couple of office staff would cover in most cases.
  11. Imagine the poor 19 year old agency worker who got sent to a temporary job in a care home at the beginning of this year so got jabbed early. They no longer have that job so probably won't get a booster. Who decides if they can attend a football match or a gig?
  12. The whole thing is going to get very messy once boosters come in. They've said 'fully vaccinated' will mean the most doses you could have had according to the current protocol at the time. This will mean two doses for some and three for others. From the end of September this means a nightclub doorman will be expected to question everyone as to whether they are a candidate for a booster before deciding eligibility to enter.
  13. Since Pfiser became the preferred vaccine for the under 40s storage issues seem to have disappeared or at least been solved.
  14. So far yes because boosters (3rd dose) aren't being given out yet. The article I read was for somewhere like Bolton I think and listed locations, times/dates, whether they were doing first or second jabs (or both) and which vaccines they were using. It didn't say the Pfiser only centres were reserved for the under 40s. Guessing once 3rd doses are involved there may be restrictions on where you can go so they can force the AZ again. Guessing again, I'd say it would be worth holding back for a greater chance of the Pfiser.
  15. This one confuses me HB. From what I'm seeing the mobile/walk-in facilities are giving out Pfiser jabs. If it's easy enough to kit out a bus with the necessary fridge it can't be too difficult to install them elsewhere. I think it's more the case that they need to hype up/use up the AZ wherever possible.
  16. I've just seen an article which gave out details of walk-in, pop up centres and buses in one area and it gave out details of which vaccines they were using. Most were AZ and Pfiser but a few were Pfiser only which would be the obvious choice. Seems your best bet of getting the vaccine you want is to live in an urban area with low take up.
  17. So will govt take notice of what they say or not? We're all at the mercy of whatever govt decide, no option for individuals of popping along to a private supplier for a booster other than an expensive trip overseas.
  18. It's a no brainer. 'Nobody is safe until we're all safe' was a nice little soundbite and in this case also true.
  19. Looks like boosters may not be available as a matter of course A third COVID booster jab is likely to only be needed for a small group of people, according to a government adviser. (Getty) A third coronavirus jab will “quite likely” only be needed by a small group of people, a government adviser has said. Professor Adam Finn, who sits on the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) – which advises the government on vaccine policy – said people who have a weak immune system are likely to need a booster jab. He said it is still unclear whether a rollout will be necessary for all over-50s. His comments came after health secretary Sajid Javid confirmed that plans are under way to prepare for an autumn rollout of booster shots, but stressed that ministers were still waiting for advice on exactly who will need one.
  20. Not me HB but as the idea of needing them has been driven by low take up of vaccination among the young I'm pretty sure they'll find a way round. We may moan about the 'yoof' but they can be very resourceful.
  21. I think it will be more a case of manpower here and the level of skill required to check paperwork (including mobile phone documentation). For example, I'm not sure how much training an immigration officer gets to check the validity of passports but I'd guess their skill level is greater than could be expected for door staff at a nighclub. I have my paper copy of vaccine status and it would be a doddle to churn them out to a standard which would satisfy cursory inspection by an amateur.
  22. It will. I do know one serious anti vaxxer and I don't know if they'd be happy paying if that's what happens here. I do know there seems to be little appetite for checks from the venues themselves and I'd question our ability to enforce them purely because of manpower. Our police would have had to hit very lucky when I was in the West End the other night as everything was open and functioning. Very different from when restrictions were in place and fewer people were out and about.
  23. Do you know how it's going to work HB? I'm sceptical about the practicality for nighclubs and gigs here from September - and whether it will apply to other venues. I've been to the theatre twice in the last week, once in London and once in the provinces. There were no checks at all, not even the temperature check.
