  1. HSBC (Or someone) try that on with me. I get a call, I answer it and a stranger wants my date of birth, address with postcode and 2 digits from my security code.. Yeah, right. A fool and his money are easily parted; a fool I am not..
  2. Crikey, well done CG, that must have been somewhat stressful - I certainly don't look forward to the idea of setting a precedent with crazy HSBC nastiness.. As an aside, just what's a set-aside? I'm after HSBC now (for a fraction of what they took off you) so I'm happy to see they can be beaten with enough patience and the right approach..
  3. Or, I believe from White Men Can't Jump (and a previous sig of mine) "You can put a cat in an oven, but that don't make it a biscuit." Simply brilliant, I thought..
  4. If you wouldn't mind - be useful for any similar replies if the other Credit Card companies start referring to the OFT judgement..

    Krakan vs. Egg

Right, here goes.. Sending DPA letter today regarding an account I used to hold with Egg. Since defaulted but made Full and Final Settlement a few months ago. Chasing the scores of fees which prompted the unpleasantness in the first place, many of which are late payment fees (which, given their excessive value I assume still constitute penalty charges, even though I didn't pay anything for months on end..) DPA Letter being sent 19.05.2006 so we'll see how long it takes them to be a pain in the proverbial.. (Since the account's now closed, I can't send them my Egg statement as proof of identity, though I surely would if I could!)

    Late Fees

It is my understanding that you can, yes. Anything up to 6 years back regardless of whether the account is now closed..
  7. Hi guys, First of let me say that I have tried searching for this question having been previously asked, but couldn't find it anywhere.. It tooks ages, kept finding other exciting posts.. If this is in an inappropriate topic then please move it! So, anyway: I had an egg account since about 2000. few years later I went to Uni, debts started mounting up (largely my fault) and eventually I used the card without knowing how much money was left on it only to find that the card was going through just fine in shops even though thre was no money there. Many charges. We had a falling out eventually after I refused to pay until they removed the charges, they referred me to a debt collection agency. They got ignored, because they were rude and unpleasant. Several agencies later, one offered a full/final settlement for 60%. I offered 50%, they agreed and off went a cheque. Obviously the account has been closed for some time. The debt was eventually paid off in part to a debt collection agency, much of the money I paid them was towards charges - I didn't query the nature of the money they were claiming, I just offered them 50% So, $64,000 is, can I (and will I win if I) claim against Egg for these charges, even though they closed my defaulted account a couple of years ago and I had to settle with a DCA Opinions welcome please:)

    krakan vs HSBC

Comments duly noticed and letter modified accordingly.. Off to PO now, thanks:)
  9. Right. Held an account with Shanghai's finest since I was 13, and have been royally shafted in the charges sense for most of that. Saw the light in the last few years when I realised that a polite letter (with reference to the automated nature of all their 'decisions') usually saw a refund. Now I'm out to level the playing field again for good, because there's a load of rubbish I wasn't informed enough to complain about at the time. Now I have a job, the charges and the worries have stopped, it's time to deal with what's gone on before.. First off then, krakan's DPA letter regarding his statements and lists of charges. It's fairly standard insofar as it's very close to the template from the library. Obviously, you guys are busy enough without holding my hand but have I done that correctly? Provided I haven't, y'know, accidentally inferred that I want them to take my money and burn it then I shall send it out on Thursday 17th May, and will update as things progress.. an 'OK to Launch' would be most appreciated from anyone who's done similar:) Thanks guys, krakan
  10. Right lad(y/ies) - quick question: For the life of my account I have so far had either no overdraft or a 0% interest one. I moved from a kiddie account to a student account to a graduate account. I've a suspicion that part of my overdraft wasn't actually 0% (fag packet maths on interest charges - bearing in mind I exceeded my non-overdraft a bit,) but nothing, anywhere, seems to support my theory so I am left having to assume that the entire overdraft is interest free. So, it seems to me that the interest I've paid is likely to be £0 more than it ought to have been - I'd only have paid interest on monies borrowed in excess of my agreed limit. It seems reasonable that interest charges would apply to this. Would this mean that I should leave the second sheet empty, and include no mentions of interest charged when I make my initial claim to the bank? Naturally I shall be filling in the third (8%) sheet when the dreaded moment comes, but I can't see any way in which the second applies.. Just wanted to check, this isn't my usual line of work after all! (though if anyone has a business that has computers that want fixing I'll be glad to help:-D Anything but direct and unsubstantiated insults regarding my appearence are gratefully accepted.. Krakan
  11. I used to work at the CSSC in Leicester - I can assure you that *every* call is recorded, can be monitored realtime and is in a big database accessible from the Windows PCs which every team leader have access to.. That was probably 2-3 years ago, things won't have gone bakwards since and certainly the new centres in India will have at least the same level of monitoring...
  12. Well done old chap, your case has been the benchmark by which I was either going or not going after FD for the years of unreasonable crap I've had to put up with.. Your result gives me the catalyst I needed to get on with it, will draft my DPA letter tomorrow and post a new thread so you can follow my journey:) Congratulations again monkey, and good on you for the non-confidentiality bit, very brave!! Keep on keepin' on:grin: PS: I'm not sure I understand the 'sic' - there's nothing wrong with that sentence!?
  13. Hi Susan, I'm afraid I can't offer any concrete advice, but I can offer my opinion and in doing so bump your post up a bit so it may get noticed by someone who does know the absolute answer:) I would request the Manual Interventions, for the sake of £10 and possibly one more month, get everything that everyone else has got and then you'll be on exactly the same path as the people on here who have received success - at the very least, if you do everything the way everyone else does then you have the best chance of getting the best response! Well yes, but if there's one chink in your attention-to-detail it's your layout.. Carriage-Return-Line-Feed is just to the right of 'L'
  14. Just a thought on the matter: I used to work at a bank. I shan't say which one, but, well, it had connections to Shanghai.. Anyway, whilst it was nowt to do with my job, Oasis (the IT system there) allowed us to wander over all kinds of crap that was none of our business. That's actually directly linked to the reason I don't work there any more Anyways, I used the system to check my bank balance. On there one could also see your 'buffer overdraft' which everyone had, and which was calculated with a 'system decision' - presumably based on the amount you pay in each month, a calculated probability that you'll pay it off (on, say, payday) and past performance (that's pure speculation, though).. Which is why it's different for different people.. It's the 'system' being mean.. As an aside, there's also an accessible, pre-calculated 'pre-approved' overdraft figure for each account.. Turns out my old dear could have had a massive overdraft if she'd only asked.. Ho hum
