  3. 's an interesting one. And you got one of the stars of the political world for your MP too! Best of luck with your claim, your letters look perfect to me.
  4. Nice one mate. Got a similar response to my claim, held the account for 6 months though only £250 in charges. Maybe we're under a threshold or something with them...
  5. .lol. doesn't matter now received the standard 'Our charges are legal' letter through the post but the bottom half is 'mindful of the costs involved' etc and offered me £250 and is signed by hand by Robert Kernaghan. No confidentiality clause so a successful outcome within two working days !! Massive massive thanks to Dave and the mods. You guys are my heroes and I'll be donating as soon as they deposit the money in my account. /me mooches off to complete the survey.
  6. Ah.. Well, you see.. they're next on my list... I should update my sig... Thanks for the advice though. I'll take a look at what I can sign up for on the 'net.
  7. Doesn't it tire you out dealing with all this shameless moneygrubbing on the part of these companies and know that barring what you were entitled to by law in the first place, you get sod all by way of recompense? Lord knows the consumer is punished when their efforts aren't up to scratch...
  8. I've only been here a short while but in even that space of time everyone seems to be acknowledging that this site, and ofc, claims against the banks, are increasing rapidly. Given that these institutions have already incepted 'Task Forces' and held quorums and bandied about warnings about this issue, how long do people think before this thing hits critical mass and there's a sea change in the way the banks conduct themselves vis-a-vis penalty charges? I just wonder what outcome people foresee, or whether this may just continue as something that the minority of savvy (..? maybe lucky is more appropraite; in finding this site) consumers can use to strike back at the banks while our fellow proles work long hours to pay back what seem to be unenforceable charges to enrich the already rich?
  9. I've been browsing the site for about 3 weeks and since having to quit my quite well paid job, move back in with my parents, and take up a part time retail post paying minimum wage my charges mean I have literally no money whatsoever. Wages swallowed up on a fortnightly basis. I only opened an account with FD last December so I have complete records of charges, and sent the first standard letter yesterday. Wish me luck btw - does anyone have any advice on where best to get a basic account so if they get shirty I have something to fall back on?
  10. Just add my voice to the choir; I've had an account with NatWest for about 7 years now and the first time a cheque bounced (twice obviously as they're re-presented the next day) I phoned up, explained that I was 20 years old and had no idea about banking and charges etc (I thank the Lord kids these days get personal financial education at schools, even if it is basic) and the very kind lady immediately gave me one of the charges back that same day because my account had been 'run quite well, deposits every month' etc. She also said that this was the first and last time that any charge would ever be refunded on my account. So, yeah. There seems to be only one surefire route to get your money back.
  11. I think maybe one of the problems with businesses switching back to a pre-1985 way of paying employees (Giro, cheque whatever) is the BACS system. I'm pretty certain that the whole taxation system is now geared up to use the BACS 'clearing house' to remove your National Insurance contributions, Tax, Student Loan repayments etc as it's much more efficient than having the Inland Revenue poring over lists of payments made via cheque, Giro etc. Plus it's much more legit, as they can be certain of exactly what each and every person in legal paid employment is being paid. Can't see any massive changes in the near future myself despite the stuff being bandied about 'post-May'.
