Hi, I have 6 late payments from British Gas:

2 late payments-21 pounds

2 late payments- 31 pounds

2 late payments- 14 pounds.

All of them i paid in full, I even did realize that i paid it late. They said they not going to remove it , only change as settled which is not done yet.

It damaged my credit report and I actually didn't know they can inform CRA's about accounts.

Can anyone advise what to do to get rid those late payments?

Thanks a lot.

Hi agugabi,

I honestly don't know what to do here, but I'll be following your thread with interest. I have loads of late payment charges with British Gas. Haven't paid on time because I couldn't and a huge percentage of my quarterly gas bill is made up of these amounts being carried forward.

People wouldn't incur these charges by paying late unless they literally couldn't pay on time, so therefore we incur more debt. I've been thinking about this for a long time.

It does not cost them £14 to send out a threatogram in a red-marked envelope.

I have been meaning to see if anyone, anywhere, has challenged this and will do so tomorrow. If they are charging all these late payments they need to justify them.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Actually they did not charge me anything more than they should (my bills), no late payment charge at all but 6 late payments has damaged my credit report badly, over 400 points less than before!!!

I have checked my credit report today and they change 4 of those late payments to satisfied but info of late payments is still there. I wasn;t aware at all that utility companies could give info to CRA's.

I will try to find some thread regarding late payment charges, i have seen it somewhere. £14 is far too much just for one letter. Did you try to talk to them and make repayments plan?It should avoid any late payment charges.

Were these estimated bills or true values?

I'd be inclined to email the CRA's advising that you dispute reporting as you were in credit at the time and BG used estimated values for bill processing.

Let them prove otherwise.

Their ICO licence does cover them for credit reporting.

Of course your issues are as to whether the reporting was justified.

Actually whilst you still have any contract with them -yes,unless you have issued them with a section 10 notice to ask them to stop. You cannot do this whilst you are still doing business with them, since a section 10 requires them to cease all processing/sharing/and controlling your data-meaning they could not continue to run your account.

Once any contract has ended, then so does your permission for them to continue processing your data.

Any markers registered on Cra files would stay unless you could show good cause that they were not there legitimately.

Late payment markers are short term in any case and do not stay on a file for the 6 years like a Judgement.

Yes correct.

I did question this with all 3 of the CRAs and they all confirmed it.

Can You Confirm How Long A Late Payment Marker Stays On Your Credit File

Thanks

i'm sure its 6 years on a dormant account, I've still got barclaycard on mine from 2004 even though it was paid in full during 2005 with PPI (the one and only time I've ever had a payout), problem was they were always a month in arrears so had continuous late payment markers.

A delinquent account is one where your repayments have been at least three months in arrears for two or more consecutive months or have been late for more than three months over the past year.

Every record of a credit account will include a status history showing whether or not payments have been made on time. Credit accounts can include your payment record over up to 36 months. The most recent payment is shown as the first entry.

The last 12 months' payments are shown, and underneath there is a summary of the payment history over a period of up to 36 months (unless the status history shown is 8). In the summary, the entries for "number of status 1-2" and "number of status 3+" identify how many times payments been up to two months late, or three or more months late, within the last 36 months (or since the account was opened).
