Having seen an example of a a letter to the Halifax, I'm left wondering why this commences with a request for copies of bank statements. Is this only necessary when these are not retained by the account holder?

I have kept all my statements going back to the opening of my account (2 years) and, lately, all the online statements issued. So I assume that I wouldn't need to ask for copies.

I am able to identify each of the charges extracted by the bank, so it would seem better to highlight these and the respective dates. Am I correct?

You are in the situation where you have all of your statements, therefore there is no need for you to request them.

Just add up what they have charged you and proceed directly to step 2.

The request is there for people who have not kept their statements, or not kept all of them going back 6 years.

I have had my account for nearly 10 years and havent kept all of my statements. I only keep 2 years at a time (wish I had kept more now).

But there you go. In your case proceed directly to step 2

Paul
