Hello everyone , hope you can help as noone else seems able to.

Recently we were unlucky enough for our Transit to decide to spontaneously combust at the side of the road. It has been written off and turned into petfood cans - how do we claim back the unused prtion of the road tax as the tax disc is no more??

Usually you would take the tax disc into a main Post Office and fill in a form. The tax disk being proof that the tax has been paid.

Without the disk, your only hope is to write to the DVLA and explain the situation. You would probably be required to furnish proof of the vehicle's demise.

The fact of valid tax should be logged against the vehicle's registration number on the DVLA computer system.
