I have just come off the phone from the Abbey and I am fuming.

I rang last week to see how my request for my statements were coming along and was told that they should be with me on Fri or at the latest this Mon and if they hadn't arrived then I should ring them back as they might be lost in the system.

It is now Tues 25th April and I have recieved only part of my statements, so I rang them to find out what was happening to the rest. Only to be told that they were sent to me on the 2nd April and must be now 'lost'. I was offered the opportunity to re-order them which I accepted and was then told that there is now a charge of £10.00 As I haven't recieved the statements from my first request, can they now charge me? Also I was told that I would have to wait another 40 days.

Is this common with the Abbey? Should I pay the £10.00?

Any recommendations would be gratefully recieved.

I am so angry I didn't even realise that I had spelt statement wrong in the heading! Sorry

OOOOh I hadn't thought of that.

I'm getting more and more angry the more I think about it.

Should I write or would a phone call do? I am fed up of waiting I want to work out how much I am due!

This happend to me so I sent them the following letter:

To xxxxx

Re: Data Request of Account: xxxxxxx Sort code: xx-xx-xx

Thank you for your my bank statements on this account between [date]and [date].

I await the additional statements of this account account dating back to [date] as requested in my previous letter.

I shall expect to receive these within the next xx days. (count down days here)

May I remind you that if all data requested is not supplied within the 40 days a complaint will be made against you to the Information Commissioner and you will be liable for a £xxx charge to investigate the matter.

Yours Faithfully

You can use this if you wish, may need some editing though, but ask around before sending it. There is no need to pay the fee again, they have your address; there should be no reason for them to get lost, they are just trying it and stalling for time.

Well I would call them and ask to speak to a manager (or go to the branch)

Advise them that they waivered the charge in the 1st place and that if they hadnt 'lost' the statements you wouldn't be in this situation now!

Also advise them that they have X amount of days left till the 40 days expires and if that is the case you will not hesitate to report them and they will be charged for this pleasure by the IC!

Abbey are the worst EVER!

And as previously reported on here Abbey have sent out statements for totally different customers before!

This isnt the 1st time they have let statements get into the wrong hands!

Ok, first I am going to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner, then I am going to go into the branch with a letter requesting the whereabouts of my statements.

Will let you all know what happens!

Wish me luck!

I have just rang the Abbey back for all the dates of phone calls etc and told them that I needed this information for the letter that I was sending to the information commissioner.

She started to give me the dates and at the end said that they would waiver the charge this time.

I did point out that I wasn't actually requesting for a new set of statements, but chasing up the previous request therefore there was no charge anyway (I refuse to be grateful!)

I then surprised myself by becoming very assertive and told her that their 40 days was already up and as a gesture of good will on my part I would give them 5 days to get the statements to me.

I shall now be following this up with a letter!
