Hi all..

Some advice is needed - so apologies if this is in the wrong sub-forum...

I'm planning to return to the UK after a lengthy stay overseas (17yrs) and would like to confirm if there is anything outstanding in my name debt wise. To be honest I think there was some areas that weren't completely wrapped up when I left..

This I know as some close relatives told me about some calls to them (they have the same surname and live in the same town) from agencies trying to locate me, this being a couple years after I'd moved overseas..

I understand the Credit Reference Scoring drops off after 6 yrs.  Using credit scoring checks is no good as I'm unable to prove my identity online to them as I'm still overseas.

What about CCJs or HMRC etc ?  How do I confirm if anything is outstanding there ?

How do I investigate across the board ?

Many thanks for any pointers !

What debts were left behind ?

Normal consumer credit debts will be dead by now, unless you have paid anything in last 6 years. You could check Trustonline for CCJ's obtained at your last UK addresses. In theory with a CCJ, they could apply to Court to try to enforce, depending on when obtained and period to now.

Although debts may be unenforceable due to limitations act, does not stop bottom of the barrel debt collection agencies from chasing you. They may try it on and you can tell them to stop chasing due to limitations act statute baring.

What Government debts ?  Even if these are unenforceable in Court, they can collect in other ways such as deduction from benefits.

We could do with some help from you.

Hi..

OK I have checked Trustonline and there is nothing there..

I had a company that was dissolved and it was operated by my ex on my behalf - so I was worried that maybe some taxes etc were left unpaid.  Looking at Companies House nothing is listed as being disqualified in my name so I assume it was all closed down without issue..

Is there a way to found out from HMRC/Income Tax etc if anything is outstanding ?

Many thanks..

Well yes you could contact HMRC on your return and ask them to check.

Also worth checking with local Council authority where the business was based to  check whether they have a note of anything.

This might avoid nasty surprises later after you have settled back in the UK and if there is nothing on record allow you to have peace of mind.

to late to enforce CCJ's so forget all about those or any other consumer credit debt

just check with HMRC.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
