Hi

please can someone give some employment advice.

3 month probation period was extended by 6 weeks.

Had a new line manager in this time who doesn't understand the role being performed.

During this subsequent extension had a bad accident so been off work sick.

Had 3 weeks left of extended probation to go before accident.

Now back working but only on half days for the foreseeable.

Been told that probation has been now been further extended by another 4 months.

Work has slowed due to c-19 and working remote.

Is a 4 month extension allowed.

No reason given other than to allow time to get up to speed

- it looks like they want to re-run the full probationary period with new line manager in situ.

Not sure what to do for the best.

Hello,

if you aren't at the required standard, or they cannot yet verify that, then yes, they can extend probation.

Never assume anyone on the internet is who they say they are. Only rely on advice from insured professionals you have paid for!

probation doesnt really men much as they can dismiss you in the first 2 years of employment for almost any reason.

It becomes a useful term if there is a considerable training element and some soprt of record keeping amde along with regular feedback on progress. in your case most of tis does seem to be happening so consider the probationary period a method of gauging how you are getting to the stage of performing the job role expected at the lowest acceptable level rather than worrying about the term probation. It isnt a sword hanging over you, it is a safety rope
