Hi all, new here!

I have just joined Experian to see what my credit score is like - its "fair" at the moment, but, its being ruined by a CCJ from some years ago, and I'd like some advice on it. Its a bit complicated so bear with me!

The CCJ is from Northampton County Court, and is for £17000+ but the only thing I have anywhere near that amount was a bank loan from HSBC many years ago for £10000. I am sure this is what it relates to, but, how can I find out?

If it IS related to that, then how can I dispute the amount as the loan was only for £10k (plus whatever interest)? Also, the loan was taken out jointly by my ex partner and myself, and there is no chance of us getting back together. To be honest, I had no idea there was a CCJ until I checked Experian, as she had a "head in the sand" mentality, and threw mail in the bin, so I never saw it.

If I can find out all this info, can somebody advise on where I go next? Can I get an IVA or something, to settle the debt? Im assuming its gone through a credit reference agency as the loan with HSBC is showing as completed in the positives section of Equifax?

I've really got no idea where to start or how to proceed with this...... its ruining my ability to obtain any sort of credit, but sort of winning the lottery, I dont know how to deal with it :(

Any help and advice appreciated.

Cheers all

I guess they are not chasing you for this debt at the moment, if that is the case, it would be better to leave sleeping dogs lie

6 years from the date the CCJ was obtained, it will drop off your credit file, weather it is paid or not

Also paying it off, will have no beneficial effect on your credit at all

I havent heard a thing, but Im not at the address the debt is registered to any more. I have asked her if there is any post but I dont seem to be getting any, so, I can only assume they arent. But, can they not just reinstate the CCJ after 6 years and thus still force me to pay it? I have no problem trying to sort it out, but I really dont know how to go about it.

after 6 years, it will go off your credit file and can never return

if they want to try to enforce it after the 6 years, they need to go back to court to be able to, the court will need a very good reason why they haven't enforced it, very unlikely

You need to find out which court issued the Judgment and get the details of the claimant...you can make a start by registering on......

24 months on a judgment is still in its infancy.....

Only briefly...possibly a claim number...then you can call Northampton...ask for a copy of the claim (particulars ) and judgment
