Hi everyone,

I've registered on here looking for advice as I'm at my wits end.

I live in a rented flat and have been with Scottish Power since I moved in.

In March 2014, I was in my online banking and noticed that Scottish Power hadn't taken anything out of my bank account since January.

I checked my DD was still active (it was) and tried logging into my Scottish Power account but kept getting an error.

Tried calling but couldn't get through to anyone so tweeted them.

Cutting a long story short,

they had closed my account without explanation.

They said they would investigate and get me all set back up.

It's now January 2015 and I am no further forward.

Every time I speak to someone on Twitter or Facebook, I get a different excuse.

I've been told that it was a system error,

been told that the National Grid requested it's closure.

I was assigned a customer service agent who is supposed to be dealing with it

but she doesn't respond to e-mails and any requests for a call are ignored.

I have no way to manage my bills, no way to work out costs.

I have made it clear to them that I will not be paying for the time that this goes unresolved

as I don't feel anything is being done.

I am now moving out of this property in April and I don't know what to do.

It is my understanding that if they haven't billed you - through their own error, then they cannot back bill. However, I will try and find someone who will be able to help further.

I have been trying to contact someone at Scottish Power and it's impossible to speak to anyone.

I have spoken to them via Facebook and Twitter mainly so I have all correspondence for my Ofgem complaint.

I've just bought a house so I"m just concerned that they will try and hit me with a huge bill. I feel like I'm the only one trying to get this resolved.

C B is correct. If, through no fault of your own, they have not billed you for over 12 months, all they can do is go whistle. I'd post link to uk energy site on this but can't do it on this pre-historic phone

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

It says

"This clause confirms the suppliers’ commitment to bill customers regularly and accurately, and imposes limitations on the circumstances where customers can be billed for previously unbilled energy that is more than 12 months old."

Doesn't that mean they could attempt to bill me for my 2014 usage since I reported this issue to them in March 2014?

Yes but this was reported in March 2014 so if this was to get fixed tomorrow, they'd bill me for the full year.

I am really confused as what to do next. I've tried everything to get it sorted.

once you now receive a bill

it can only be for usage for 12mts previous

As I understand it, yes, they can bill you for the last 12 months, but no further.

So going by that, if they sent you a bill tomorrow, it could only be for as far back as 14th January 2014.

It would be incredibly unreasonable of them to demand it in a lump sum,

however I'm unsure how your wanting to move soon may effect that, if at all.

Also, your last bill, was it based on a meter reading? Or estimated?

It was an estimated bill.
