Hi, I'm new here and so apologies if this has been asked before.

I have searched the forums for info on Motormile but have a few questions that I couldn't find exact answers to.

Any help will be appreciated.

recieved an email informing me that they have purchased a debt and I now owe them the outstanding balance.

I actually don't have any problem with that.

I do owe it and if I can work out a payment plan then I'll pay it.

Questions I have though are this:

1) How likely are they to visit my 'home' address?

From there website I can see that the closest doorstep office they have is around 70-80 miles from the address they are likely to have.

I live abroad so I don't have any worries about them turning up but it's possible they have my parents address on file.

Although the most recent address they should hold is somewhere else.

Are they likely to visit 'older' addresses? And travel 80 miles hoping I will be in?

2) Does anyone have a working email address for MMF?

Seeing as I am normally out of the UK I can't phone,

have no postal address here and I need to email them to offer a payment plan.

Or at least seeing if I can get a reduction and then pay the balance.....

Thanks.

moved to the MMF forum.

MMF issue all manner of useless threats

per i'd totally ignore them.

tell us about the debt please

NEVER EVER pay a DCA without sending them a CCA REQUEST first.

and TBH what makes you think you owe this debt?

if the OC has sold it

then 99/100 there is something WRONG with the debt.

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

If you live abroad, then you should contact them and give them your new address. This will stop them contacting your parents and have the added effect they cant try court action as you arent resident in the country.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

Hi thanks for the replies.

It is for a payday loan from a year ago.

Long story short,

split up with partner,

couldn't pay loan back,

moved abroad for work and

to be honest I actually forgot all about it.

I stopped paying about March time.

Looking through my emails it appears it was passed on to Debt Revenue Services last July

and has now been passed to Motormile.

I received an email this week of a 'Notice of Legal Assignment'.

The amount is several hundred.

I don't want to put exact amounts in case someone is snooping.

I agree about the CCA but I don't have a postal address in the UK which is why I need a working email address.

I doubt they would read the email anyway though.

My biggest concern is when I took out the loan I put my (at the time) current address which I have obviously vacated

but I also put down my previous address which is my parents.

I don't know if Motormile would have been passed that address

or whether they would likely visit an older address on file

but my parents are elderly and I am worried about the being bothered by strangers knocking on the door making threats.

From what I can see, Motormile DO visit.

But as I said, my old address is 70 odd miles from the nearest office listed on their website so I'm guessing they won't.

They certainly haven't posted any letters to the older address and I am in touch with old workmates and no one has mentioned any phone calls asking for me.

Does the Notice of Legal Assignment mean they own the debt or are just chasing it for the original creditor?

Also am I right in thinking Notices of Legal Assignment have to come by post and not email?

If you are not resident in the UK, then follow DX's advice. Although they will continue to harass your parents as MMF have total disregard for the law. IMO you should write to them and tell them your new address. You need to address this to rob sands - compliance officer and mark it private and confidential. In that letter you also need to start a formal complaint for harassment at your parents.

With MMF it will take a while to get them to back off, but it works. It's your choice on what to do next.

A NOA means that they own the debt, but some DCA's have been known to fake them to trick you into paying them. MMF though regularly buy up bad PDL debts in huge amounts. It could be the reason they harass and intimidate debtors, because they know that the person was desperate to take one out, is struggling to pay so they think they will cower down when they are threatened.

Well no one is harassing my parents yet and their address won't be on MMFs file as my current one so I don't know if they'll even try it. I suspect they'll send someone to my last address and find out I'm not there.

I could send a letter to them but it's not guaranteed to even arrive. I live in Thailand and I've had a few things go missing in the post and I can't send it recorded delivery from here. Well I suppose I could DHL it!

MMF dont send out doorstep collectors. They just threaten to do so. A while ago they tried, but the doorstep collector pretty much ran off when the debtor told him where to go.

I read someone had a visit about 2 months ago but if they've stopped doing that then I have little to worry about. Thanks. I'll have a think over the next few days what to do. If they want to travel 6000 miles then they come and discuss it here :)

To my knowledge, they just love to threaten and intimidate people into thinking someone will call. As i said, they couldnt care less about the rules.

I get dozens of letters from Motormile. Literally. I think they hold two old payday loans, both of which are technically outstanding but who at the time had their money back many times over due to the huge sums of interest I paid.

Motormile are always threating home visits, asking me to make an appointment for a home visit, passing it to their home visit department, etc. etc. etc.

I am working through other much more important debts that these - even if they can even be classed as debts given the sums the original lenders made out of me. I might get round to them one day. I might not. :)

I'm not too concerned with actual loan at the moment. I can deal with the interest/charges whatever when I get to that stage...

My concern at the mo is purely this.

When I took out the loan I put down my current (at the time) address and also my previous address as I hadn't stayed for 3 years (or whatever the requirement was) at the new one. The previous address is my parents. All I really wondered was, if MMF decided to visit my last address and found I wasn't there would they try visiting an even older address (ie my parents)? I assume they would see an older address as even more unlikely to yield anything but I don't know how this bunch operate.

So far I have only had a couple of emails from them. As far as I know, no phone calls to my old work (I have asked) and no mail to my parents - although there could be some at the address they believe is my current one.

Thanks for all your help.

If the other addresses appear on CRA files MMF may well attempt to make contact there.

If they have an e=mail address they can most likely trace your current address.

Do Not engage with MMF by phone under any circumstances, they are notorious for outrageous threats.

My personal advice is to ignore them until you get a full written notification about their intentions.

Just logged in to WDA site and it appears that the debt is still with them. It states there that I cannot reapply for a loan until I settle the current one. Not sure that MMF actually owns the loan now. When it was being dealt with by DRS I received 2 emails and nothing more. I have had the same from MMF....so far.

My email isn't linked to any addresses so I doubt it will be of any use to them. The only reason they it is because it was used for the application of the loan. I defaulted last March and I left the country at the same time. There has been no post or phone calls that I know of in that time so I am starting to think they only have my last address. Maybe wishful thinking. I will hold off for now until I hear different.

  • 2 weeks later...
Well I have a mail saying that a collector WILL shortly be visiting. Should be interesting. For the people who live there now......I suppose I will never know if they actually did visit.

I hope the occupants create some considerable "fuss" if the oik does show up!

He wont reply. You need to address any letters to Rob sands - COmpliance officer. And mark it private and confidential. They then have 56 days to resolve the complaint, then you can get the regulators involved to make a decision for them.

Gotcha. Well, whatever position he's in, he would have been fired in any other job.

His position in more reason to direct as many Formal Complaints directly to him, because if/when it all goes pear shaped for MMF he will be the one to take the fall.
