This is probably a daft question, but I read somewhere that only the original lender can apply for a CCJ, not a debt collection agency. Is this true?

No. If a DCA has bought the debt or has a legal basis for issuing a court claim they can do so, without needing consent from the original lender.

If the court claim was defended, they might have to show a judge that they owned the debt or had the right to make the claim. But only if the defence asked for such proof to be provided. i.e a judge would not ask.

We could do with some help from you.
