I have a debt showing on my credit file from Noddle and not on Experian.

The debt is a old bank account I used to have with Alliance and Leicester, now Santander.

On Experian it shows as settled on 4/8/2010

I went through a IVA due to having a business go under. I failed the IVA as I then lost the job I had when I agreed to pay back my debt to the HMRC in full. However most of the people I owed money to, to the sum of some £35,000, have not contacted me since only 3 companies, one of which I refuse to even note because they haven't even my name right on any correspondence to me.

I intend to let all my old debts from back then expire after the 6 year period rule. However recently I have been looking at trying to get a mortgage and realised that my credit score on experian is rated "excellent" at 975/1000 so wanted to try and clean it up a bit to better my chances of a mortgage now instead of waiting another 2 years.

On Noddle it shows as still in default of £1,132 for a santander account dated 09/06/2008. Now I do think I got a letter regarding this a while ago but to be honest I cannot find it at the minute.

Basically I would like to know what are my options regarding this?

Yes Martin3030, I found by clicking on the box (let us know) I queried the fact it was on my file. I had the option to put in the settlement date. I used the date from my Experian report for this. I done this after my original post as this is all a little new to me, so was exploring the layout of the noddle site since posting above.

There are are a number of reasons for these variations.

While Noddle is free experience has shown that it is oftn not up to date and it is not as widley used as CRAs the data is from the parent company CallCredit which is not as wildely used as the 2 main agencies.

I seems from my experience that lenders are using a permutations of the agencies a different agency for different financial products.

Also the updating of data is sometimes erratic as well, lenders doing this monthly, quartely, etc or only when there is a change that has significant impact.

Agreed. One account may well be missing from another - having tabs on all three and concentrating on Experian and Equifax is advised.

BSBS.

Also I would never recommend any of the generic reference agencies of the ''check my file'' type.

touche!

I remember sigining up to such agency for a [free period] of access and then my account being emptied. Took months to rectify with little more than an apologyand a pathetic amount of compo.

I have spent a considerable amount of time researching the CRAs and their methods and have been in contact with the regulators on numerous occasions asking for clarification on the CRAs actions, imo there is great need now more than ever for greater control of the data displayed by the agencies and the data supplied by creditors.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to try and clear my name a bit to make gaining credit/A mortgage a bit easier. One other point I would like to add instead of creating a new thread.

There are 2 companies I owe about £50 to and one I own £2,200 these are showing as the only 3 defaults on my report. Would I be advised to pay the 2 smaller ones off and leave the one larger one?

I have another 20 months before the defaults are erased from my file. I just wonder if only having one default will make life easier. What is your experience of this?

In todays fianacial climate any default large or small is an immediate block on credit, if you pay the smaller debts the accounts will be marked as ''satisfied'' and remain on file for the balance of the six years, lenders look at an increaseingly longer period of good +++ credit management often 5-6 years....
