are they allowed to escalate the charges

As the registered owner, you are responsible for paying parking tickets.

Any letter relating to the tickets would therefore be addressed to you. So unless your ex was still around then and managed to hide them from you,

you would have been aware that the tickets were mounting up.

The longer the amount is outstanding, the higher the charges become until bailiffs get involved. Then the costs really escalate-and that's without them

adding their own inventive fees.

It is the owner who is responsible for car parking fines and the DVLA provide Councils etc with the name of the registered keeper is perhaps a better

way of putting it. Thank you for the correction Green and Mean.

Exactly the car may well be in the OPs name with the DVLA, but if the car is now with the 'ex' they may not be the actual owner or the car may be being used without the OPs consent which is why the details are important.
