5.5 states "Before we take interest or charges for standard account services from your current or savings account, we will give you at least 14 days notice of how much we will take."

I have had many a letter (all archived) saying that the bank are going to charge me £39 in 7 days for ether a bounced cheque or failed Direct Debit.

Does this not fly in the face of the banking code, which Helifax supposedly subsribe to?

Or are these charges not classed as 'charges for standard account services'?

I got hit today.

Halifax mortgages tried yesterday to take a mortgage payment out of the Halifax current account, which promptly bounced... Unsurprisingly, as I had given them 6 weeks ago the new account details from which to take it. And had cancelled the d/d in the Halifax account.

So now, Halifax bank has charged me £39 for bouncing the d/d. No doubt Halifax mortgages will also charge me for going into arrears. Thanks to the £39, the account is now £1.27 over the limit. And we all know what's going to happen next, don't we, boys and girls?

That's right. I'm going to claim the lot back. Ooooh yes.

Bookworm, if you cancelled the DD the Halifax bank cannot charge you for not paying it. What the mortgage side do is another thing.

I have cancelled DD's before if I knew there wasnt going to be enough in to pay the DD and never got charged for it not being paid. I just got a letter vfrom the relevant company telling me that their request for payment had failed.

I got hit with a 7 day notice via my online banking which they have taken today and sent me £21 and change overdrawn. I was going to ring them and complain but Im sick of talking to sheep. I will just add it all to the amounts I am claiming.
