Hi Guys

Yesterday morning sat 7 Jan I got a notice of intended prosecution-redlight offence.

I dont jump lights but guess must have just miss judged one. Ive checked the map and I was there that day so must be correct.

The notice is dated 06 January 2012 and the alleged offence was 7 Dec 2011.

Whats my best move please ? I cant afford more points as ive got 6 already and a speed camera pending. I drive all day everyday for a living.

Ive heard of a 14 day rule but dont know how to go about it in the correct way.

please halp

Thanks

Depends on whether you were driving a car which wasn't registered to you or not (i.e. a company or hire car).

It would be very unusual for the police to make a mistake as elementary as not sending out the NIP until a month after the offence without good reason. If it's a company car then the first NIP would have gone to your company, or possibly the lease company which ultimately owns the car, and only this NIP has to arrive within 14 days. The company would then name you as the driver/actual keeper, and the police would send you a NIP of your own, for which there is no particular time limit.

Whereabouts was the alleged offence? Some forces offer a red light awareness course similar to a speed awareness course which would allow you to avoid the points. Not all forces do them though, and it would also depend on you having been only just into the red.
