About 6 months ago I got my "free" credit report from Credit Expert (Experian)

Within about 1-2 weeks loads (5 or 6) of DCA's started crawling out of the woodwork and chasing me for old debts, I previously had not heard from them for a number of years!

Is this a coincidence? my theory is checking your credit report must in some way hi-light you as someone trying to sort out their credit file etc etc so all the ghosts come out of the closet!

I suspect had I not checked my report I would not have heard from them.

Has anyone else had this?

That just goes to prove that the CRA's are in cahoots with the DCA's

I would imagine that a DCA puts an alert against a debt for when joe public decides to check their record and the CRA's computer automatically tells the DCA's.

It would be nice for the Experian rep we have on the forum to give some insight on this practice

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

Everything I say is opinion only. If you are unsure on any comment made, you should see a qualified solicitor

  • 2 weeks later...

They 'pay' Experian for an 'alert' service which basically means whenever any activity goes on your record they are informed, whether it be a change of address or search by another company.

Even looking for insurance trigers off these 'alerts' to the paid punters.
