Hi everyone,

newbie here, great site btw :)

For some months now the branch in Durham suffer from class distinction and consider us Visa Electron users as poor/common people. The general attitude by the staff in the Durham branch, is one of utter snobbery!

We Electron users in Durham are NOT allowed to approach the counter, we have to put our money in a machine, right next to the main entrance double glass doors. Absolutely NO privacy OR security, any thug could dash in and snatch someone's spondoolies!

Everyone (VE users) HATES the Halifax for this!

I just wondered if all branches are like that, or is just happening in Durham?

Tia folks ;)

Hi ya, I also have Halifax basic account with Visa Electron card. I think they are starting to do that everywhere in the near future as I received something in the post recently. I'm in Newcastle. I do think it's unfair though, but not much you can do really...76Bramble:)

Hi Jamjar1

Welcome to the site.

That sounds painfull. Wino ;)

My local branch have installed a new system and ever since its been going down.

The other week my daughter deposited some money at the counter and as she was walkin away she checked her receipt, she noticed it was £20 short of what she'd passed over the counter.:o

she went back immediately and told the cashier who said she would check the till, but she said that the amount was right. I had just counted the money and so had my daughter before handing it over the counter.

She checked the till and said it was right, no money over. Promised to get the manager to ring my daughter later but no-one rang , so my daughter didnt have a leg to stand on and the £20 just mysteriously disappeared.

Proper snotty little madam as well she was, ( the cashier) . More or less called us both liars.

So much for Customer Service. HA.

Hi all & a very big 17.gif to CAG, Jamjar1.

Unfortunately I think haliprats are taking that "personal touch" away from banking, & turning it into something more favourable to ppl who have money - in other words there are the "haves" (loadsamoney) & the "have nots" (potless), they want the "haves", but as we are in the "have not" category, then they don't even want to touch you or that little bit you do have. I personally think we are going backwards into that horrible old segregation thing.

After I won my money back, I opened a new account at another bank, & I have to say that I have never been treated as well.

Hi folks and thank you for your replies ;)

The thing with the halifax is, they're not so snobby when it comes to charging £79 in bank charges! :o

Hi jamjar,

Im also from the northeast and have the same account with the robbingfax, they have also stopped me paying in cheques or cash at the counter in my local branch and I have to put it in an envolope and post it in the box, I believe they charge the highest penalty fees at £39, they charged me this when I was £3.00 short for my mobile insurance which was only £5.99 and they take 10 days to clear any cheques you pay in, Im in the middle of changing all my DD to a new account with LLoyds, who gave me a free £100 overdraft... They charged me 3 times in the last couple of months all tax credit and child benefit money and my 10 year old sons DLA, ive shouted down the phone at them but still got a letter saying sod off were not refunding you, thieves nothing less, I hate them..Gc

Have you thought about sending them this Right of appropriation template letter, to stop them taking your benefit money. You even get in touch with your local benefit office & ask them to intervene, & tell the bank that this is your only means of income. What ever you decide, it's worth a try.

Hi folks and thanks for all your replies ;)

Just to update, Wallyfax won't let us speak to anyone at the bank now, if we have a query or dispute the extremely high charges, we get escorted to the back of the bank and we get to speak to some tart on the phone, sounding sooo bored having to speak to some down and out like meself!

After getting £105 in bank charges for going £10 over is a wee bit high, but that makes NO difference to our lovely snobs at the Wallyfax! The tart on the other end of the phone gave NO mercy whatsoever!

"If the bank has made no error, then it's NOT the banks fault!"

Well I KNOW that you silly stuck up TART!

What I WAS gonna request was for a couple of charges to be removed, I don't mind paying me dues, but £105 hardly justifies going £10 over!

I got told by one Wally to go elsewhere!

Charming I thought!

Ooh to be a millionaire and give the Wallyfax what for! :D

Hi all,

It's now Company policy at Halifax that you cannot approach the counter with a Cardcash account transaction. Had my recent proceeds from a Lloyds TSB reclaim payout which I had great pleasure in withdrawing from LTSB in cash. Took my £5000 out and went over the road into a 'proper' Halifax branch who told me that they couldn't deal, I would have to stick it an envelope and pop it the slot! Told them in a very loud voice that I'm not going to leave £5000 lying around or pay it in and not get a receipt. As such I would be taking my £5K down the road to my Nationwide account, Manager came running and apoligised and agreed to take the money, what a surprise. Bunch of b***dy hypocrites! Here's a tip: go into a Halifax Agency, for example the local estate agency branch. tHey do not discriminate!

Cardcash account is the only account that I know where they have actually increased the cheque clearance time! Robbing bar stewards!

Yeh, I've heard they are going to issue stickers to all Electron Card holders with 'I'm poor, and a bad risk, keep away' to stick to our foreheads. I've had folk laugh, when I've said over the phone, It's an Electron card. Last year, I booked a hotel online next to Chessington World of Adventures. I checked in, and after about 10 minutes the desk phoned me and said 'there's a problem with your card' I had to go out at 12'o'clock at night to find a cash machine to pay the Bill, before they would let me stay.:o

Any advice I give is honest and in good faith.:)

Hi, I've got a Halifax electron card and I can use it anywhere and pay any bill except my council tax.

I used the machine in the branch to pay some money in last week, I was with my husband at the time. As I put my card in the machine a voice came over my shoulder "Morning, do you know what your doing?" It was a Halifax staff member. I told her I did but she didn't go away. I put the money in the slot and she piped up "How much are you depositing today?" I told her that was none of her business and would she mind giving me some privicy. She then tried to get me to upgrade my account. I said I was happy with what I have thank you. She then went on talking to my husband asking about our mortgage and insurances. As the screen showed what I had deposited and asked if I agreed she again spoke out loud. " Do you agree you have deposited £xxxxx. I was not very happy that I'm doing my personal banking with a staff member learing over my shoulder all the time and I politly told her to bogoff!!:(

Is this common practice for the Halifax to harass you and try and sell you more debt?

I then went to the help desk as I needed to order a new card as the numbers had worn out on my one. I was told to use the phone as they do not talk to electron customers in branch. The phone was next to a large queue for the main counter. Eventually when it was answered I was asked my name, address, D.O.B. etc. I refused to give this infomation out in such a crowded place I asked the branch staff if I could use a phone in a side room and they said No.

Customer service? I don't think so:mad:

God, I hate Halifax too.

I have got a cardcash account, so am not allowed to approach the godlike staff at the counter with my megre transactions!

I deposited some money in their envelope thingy at 9am the other day to pay a bill, thinking it would be in my account by the next morning, (there is a sign saying anything paid in by 4pm will be credited same day) but come next morning when i check my online banking, guess what... no credit

I phoned them up and a very unhelpful chap at the other end informed me that it could take up to 3 DAYS for it to go into my account!!!!

I know alot of people who need to pay cash into thier account to pay bills with their cards, so what the hell are we supposed to do??

I cannot get another account elsewhere, beleive me I have tried.

Hi nat, have you tried to get a Halifax easy cash account? That's the one they gave me with a visa electron card and my credit rating is terrible.

It is defiantly worth a try to get the easy cash account. If not, then have a look at these accounts, there might be some you missed.

Ask them to change it to the easy cash at least then even though easycash customers are not recognised as real people by the Halifax, you can put money in the machines in the branch and it registers straight away in your account.

Thanks for your replies folks, there are some shocking and disgusting stories! How DARE the Wallyfax treat folk that way!

We should set up a petition somewhere on line and forward it to some government department, but I wouldn't know how to go about such things!

I like the idea of stickers for our foreheads to warn the poor snobby dears that there's a poor person approaching, lol!

Maybe we should ring bells as we approach the bank and shout "Unclean, unclean!"
