  1. Self employed working for a sub contractor for a main contractor.Invoiced for kitchens fitted. I had the kitchens fitted signed off onsite by the main contractor which states that the kitchens fitted were to their specification and there were no issues when I left the plot. A week later and the company does have a cash flow problem, however they are saying they wont pay as there are problems with my work. I said that they were signed off by the main contractor as to their standard. Bear in mind other contracotrs go in once I leave sight and any other problems may have been cause by them. They said they were going to sight to look at the work. I said I would meet them there and walk through with them. They said no. I did any way and the only problem I could see was one mitre joint had opened (Mainly due to the contractor storing worktops in damp and they are damp when fitted - heating goes on and the may shrink. This I offered to fix immediately)Now they are not answering my calls. As I have the sign offs I feel I am entitled to payment and cant be held responsible for damage from other trades once I leave.Since this the company have been kicked off site by the main contractor.....Any advice?
  2. Husband was made redundant in Dec 2012. He is now claiming IbJSA. I started my own business in July 2012, part time aprox 10 hours a week. when my Husband started claiming JSA, they asked how much I earned a week. I said £40...BUT now I have just realised I didn't take into account all my business expenses (was gunna get an accountant to work it out at end of year, as a rough guide its £1,900 a year for rates, laundry, insurance, cleaning, phone, stationary etc etc) To work out the £40 a week I worked out my takings and purchases of stock. So we've been loosing out on money - I asked them about this but they just said to fill out a B7 form each week now - which seems unfair and is of NO help! Also ive been trying to call them to tell them we are now claiming DLA (since January) for one of our children (we have 2) and also that I will be claiming CA, but job centre benefit delivery never answer the phone!! my Husband is now setting up his own business (given up looking for employment!) Job Centre have been no help what so ever!! Advise appreciated please
  3. I currently work for a small charity on a part-time basis (one of 2 part-time employees, I manage my own time and workload). I get paid approx £9,750 per year (before tax) which is supposed to be for 18 hours a week. I find myself volunteering above this and end up working 25 - 30 hours per week. Most of the work I do at home using my own computer. I don't have a contract, only verbal agreement. I also want to run my own small business (market stall selling craft goods once a month) whilst continuing to work for the charity on a part-time basis. Next year I am considering having a baby. What I'd like to know is can I change my status to self-employed, and then invoice the charity once a month for the amount they already pay me? As I understand the situation, this will mean I can then write-off petrol and other expenses, as well as earn a small supplementary amount from my market stall. I also have heard that the maternity pay for self-employed is higher than employed? I'd be grateful for any suggestions and help!
  4. Ok, first of all I have seen plenty of topics advising of the bull**** that these Payday sharks come up with, however, I am self employed and this month I did pants. So, to cut words short; I need a loan. What options do I have? Do Payday sites accept self-employed applications? What would you recommend? Thanks All replies are considered helpful!
