  1. Hi, A relative has asked for help regarding a credit card debt - original lender HBOS for £5k - dating back to 2012. Last payment made was Nov 2012 and the debt has since been sold to Arrow Global Ltd last year, 2017. A letter arrived today from Shoosmiths (who I can see from other threads are the in- house solicitor for Arrow). I have attached a copy of that letter to this thread. I am trying to offer advice to my relative but I am not sure whether this letter is a legitimate and genuine threat of court action or simply Shoosmiths phishing, given that the debt is rapidly approaching the 6 year point and, presumably, being statute barred. Can anyone offer any advice on what steps, if any, my relative should take at this point? As at today she has made no contact with Shoosmiths, the Court named in the letter or the original lender although she is beside herself with worry over the issue. Any advice is appreciated. Should also mention...the relative lives in Northern Ireland and the letter refers to an 'Ordinary Civil Bill'. docs1.pdf
  2. Hi I have recently been offered a new job and have consented to background checks, i said i was unemployed for five months and they want evidence of this, but i didn't claim and benefits (was living on savings with some help from my partner). The issue i have is they want a bank statement spanning that length of time which makes me feel uncomfortable as i find it very invasive. Also my partner didn't have a bank account at that time so let him use my bank details for his employer to pay his wages into my account, this will obviously show up on my statement. Not only that, when looking through my account history i found a couple of jobs i had forgot about that i had for such a short time but didn't declare (because i didn't remember having them) one was less than 1 week, the other was 1 month. I am upset because i genuinely forgot to incorporate them and even if i had remembered them, wouldn't have declared them as they were crap jobs that i walked out of fairly swiftly and didn't want it to look bad on me. What do i do, do i tell them and hope they will understand or am i doomed?
  3. We received a section 21 (1) (b) from the agency managing our property. We are not challenging the eviction, however, we have noticed the property is now being advertised on renting websites before we have acknowledged the notice (verbally or written) and before we have vacated the property. We were under the impression that the landlord cannot legally relet the property for six months due to the way he has evicted us, is this correct? They are using the break clause in our 12 month contract which comes into force after 6 months (which has now passed).
  4. We had a letter put through our door yesterday saying notice requiring possession. The notice is dated 04/02/2014 but we have never seen it before. They want us out by the 10th of april. We didn't know about this until yesterday. And today there were builders in the back garden and they have taken down the fence and cut the garden in half. The letter through the door said they were removing two fence panels. This is only one days notice. The letter says we have rent arrears of £2300 but we have had it calculated for us and it is only £798. We feel stuck now because we have nowhere to go and we feel like we can't argue about the garden because that will make it worse. We know they are just playing dirty and scaring us but we really don't know what to do. They are very rich people who own lots of property so we feel like we can't argue against them. Does this notice requiring possession mean we actually have to move out on that day? I'm guessing they will say that they gave us the notice 6 weeks ago but that's a lie. We can't prove it though. Just remembered one more thing. The letter that came with the notice said we are required to leave the property on april 10th 'as stated in the eviction notice we served on you on the 4th February'. I presume they mean the notice for possession and this isn't actually an eviction notice is it? This all feels very unfair! Any help would be much appreciated.
  5. Hi all, first post so please bear with me. I have had a letter from HRMC "Notice Requiring Information or Evidence" for the Tax Credits award 2012-2013 as a single person. They have said they have credit checked and found that "there MAY be Mr *********" living at your address. asking me to send bills etc.... Has anyone else had a letter of this type? Quite worried having had a quick read, I think I have not informed them of a change, he was a boyfriend I had for 7 months although financially he gave me nothing. He paid for Sky/phoneand internet combination (because I never had it) but everything else is in my name. Can anyone advise please thanks in advance.
  6. Hi CAG, I have been a lurker for some time now and seen some great threads on here and great advice, seems like Brigadier is the man :_ Anyway I need some major help, the girlfriend is dropping hints to live together and get a place. My credit is terrible I cannot even get an Aqua, Vanquis card or even that Smile card formerly known as Rise, so I need some major help so I can get things sorted. I am in a strange position that I earn a very good wage now, however this makes no difference as my credit is awful due to mishandling of finances when young or in and out of work. I know I have no one but to blame but myself, however I am now in a much better place financially and want to stop my past ruining my future. My credit score on the credit expert site is 96! Yes 96! I know the score means jack, but regardless that is shocking. I have 3 defaults and 4 ccjs. BCW Group PLC Account Type: Home Credit Started: 21/05/2010 Current Balance: £620 Default Date: 14/02/2011 Default Balance: £620 Everything Everywhere Account Type: Communications FCS Flag: FCS Disconnected Started: 29/05/2009 Current Balance: £128 Default Date: 24/01/2010 Default Balance: £128 Motormile Finance UK Ltd Account Type: Mail order Started: 12/09/2008 Current Balance: £195 Default Date: 01/12/2012 Default Balance: £195 So annoying that the amounts for these defaults are pretty low, but its only been recently that my financial position has changed. What can I do to get myself in a better position, I can’t get credit to show that I can keep up with repayments. Any help would be greatly received.
