Hi. From what I understand, it's against the rules for a bailiff or HCEO to put their foot in the door? Yet I've seen in programs like "Can't pay we'll take it away" they do actually put their foot in people's doors.
What's the best way to deal with a bailiff calling? I'd like to know both the legality and the best way to deal with these people. For example - if you answered the door and their foot immediately goes in, have they gained peaceful entry? If they refuse to move it, what can you do? If the worst comes to the worst, it's going to be your word against theirs and you'd probably lose?
What about if you have a chain on your door, you could open it and speak through the gap? Even if they jammed their foot in, they couldn't go any further, but would this count as them having crossed the threshold? Or is it better to just speak through the letterbox?
After thinking about it, the best way seems to be either the letterbox, or speaking with the chain on the door. And in both cases - getting your phone out to get video evidence that shows they haven't been given access at any time. But I'd love to hear from someone with a lot of knowledge who can give some more insight into the matter.
Thanks.
