  1. Hi All Atm I am currently on this ESA and as always you get called in from time to time for an assessment and they decide if your fit or not... even if your still in a certain degree of pain... So I am working on a back up plan if the DWP decides " I'm fit for work " Can anyone offer me some advice of becoming self employed as a HGV driver for a living... What is the process for setting up... Ive been reading up about registering the company with companies house, then HMRC for Tax & VAT or simply get a local accountant to do all of this for a fee..... Primary registrar with a number of agencies and hopefully they will offer me work as and when, but what my main concerns is being a father with 2 kids and rent to, bills etc etc is the lack of income in the first few months...
  2. A question rather than a rant I hope. We've some pretty disruptive roadworks in progress at the moment here, there's notice from a few miles out of a lane closure and then the usual warnings and speed restrictions. Alongside all of these signs are several that instruct people to queue in both lanes and merge at the very head of the queue. This works quite well mostly, the queue moves albeit there's the odd premium german saloon driver that refuses to let anyone in and the disruption, although annoying (taking a 3 minute drive up to a 25/30 minute one) is manageable. Until, a HGV driver takes it upon themselves to act as a rolling roadblock. This forces traffic to queue back through a couple of tunnels and back towards a roundabout. effectively doubling the length of the queue and delaying everyone behind. My question is this; does this constitute causing an obstruction and can it be reported to the police?
  3. The DVLA appear to have taken my HGV license away from me. I am a type 2 diabetic and have to take insulin. There is supposed to be three stages, regarding getting your license back. The DVLA have only done two stages and taken my license away, without going to the third stage, where you see an independant consultant who specialises in diabetes. I have emailed the DVLA on several occasions, but just get told it is with a team of people and that it takes a long time to answer. I have been waiting for about 7 months overall and I have also been told that I can go to a Magistrates court. The only problem is that I am not sure what I am supposed to do in a Magistrates court. Has anyone been in this situation and possibly help me? Thanking you
  4. I'm a freelance HGV driver, now self employed but at the time of the alleged offence I was paye with an agency. It was brought to my attention today that I have started paying, through deductions on my invoice, for a parking ticket I allegedly received whilst working. On questioning the agency, it seems that the client I was working for have paid the ticket, and I'm expected to reimburse them, although I am not happy and wish to contest the ticket. Is this possible, considering I am alleged to have been the driver on the day but I am not the vehicles keeper and the fine has been paid? Now, some details. The ticket was issued by Proserve Enforcement Solutions, allegedly at 15:08 on 02/12/13 at BP Service Station, Anzani Avenue, Felixstowe. There is no mention of what offence I am supposed to have committed, bar a mention of the vehicle having breached the landowners terms and conditions by parking/waiting/stopping without due authority or permission. Furthermore the vehicle committed an unauthorised trespass. The charge is £300, or £180 if paid within 14 days. There are cctv stills of the vehicle (44t Artic and trailer) parked at the back of the garage on double yellow lines, these images seem to have no time or date stamp, although the copy I have is photocopied and I have asked the agency to forward the email with clearer images to me so I can check those. For anyone that knows the site, there are circa 16 parking bays for HGV, along with pumps for both car and hgv, with a truckwash on site and small cafe and toilet block. The site can get very busy during the day, and its not unusual to find all the hgv bays taken, which isn't much help when you're close to running out of time and need to take a tacho break, which may have been what happened here. To be honest, I cant remember, and until I can check my digi card and do a printout for the day in question, I won't know. Google maps image of the service station, the red squiggle being where I was parked. The current situation is they allow 2hrs free parking, after which you must pay, and you must park in the marked bays. There are enough signs dotted around the place mentioning this. So, your views please? Can I contest, being that I was the driver but the haulage company have already paid and are looking to recover the money from me. It is mentioned on the notice that the name and address of the driver is unknown, and that the keeper may pay the charge, or pass on the details of the driver for them to contact me, and that they have 28 days of the date of service of the letter to pass on my details or pay the charge or they themselves become legally liable for the charge.
  5. My son is applying for his provisional HGV for work, new system. We are not getting any help from the DVLA, no surprises there then. A couple of questions 1/ They want his full car license, do they want both paper and plastic. 2/ They ask if he has any offenses, he has a couple from 8 years ago, does he have to declare these or are they SB even though they still show on his paper license. The so called 'guide' is not clear. Many thanks if you can help Lex
