  1. Hello, I had a 10 month policy with Elephant that ran out at the end of december, as I am not originally from the UK I wasn't aware that auto-renewal is even a thing. I did not receive any calls/letters from Elephant about a new policy. I received one letter at the end on January with my 1 years NCB with a £133 bill for my new policy that was already cancelled. Is there any way to clear my history of a cancelled policy? Thanks.
  2. Hi there I am new to these forums so please do point me towards any previous threads that have dealt with my situation previously. I am 23 years old and have my own car insured in my own name (fully comp). In May 2015 my father took my car without my permission and was hit by another car. My father believed he was insured on my car but wasn't. When he realised this he admitted to the investigating police officer that he had taken the car without my permission (in my absence - I was at work) and also accepted that he did not have insurance to drive the car. He was charged and fined for driving without insurance but no further action was taken about the car being taken without my consent. Whilst the third party driver hit my dad rather than the other way around, my insurance company (Elephant) decided that because he had driven without insurance, they are not going to defend the claim. Elephant have now written to me and stated "unfortunately there is no evidence that the vehicle was taken without consent." They have also said that their Claims department will be in touch with me to recover costs from me that they pay out to the third party (as they have decided not to defend the claim). The 2 points therefore are that they don't believe the car was taken without my permission and want me to pay them their costs which will probably be in excess of £10,000 (including whiplash claims + vehicle repair etc). What can I do? I have so far responded to their letter to ask what specifically they consider "evidence" considering my statement and my father's admission that this is what happened, clearly doesn't seem to be enough. I have asked them to forward me the police report they have received. Any suggestions on how I should approach this? I certainly don't have £10,000+ available to pay out to Elephant. Neither does my father although he does jointly own a house. Any help welcome.
  3. Hi guys I just realised today is the day my car insurance premium comes out I have no money at all until the end of the month If i call elephant what should I say? If they could change the DD to 30th that would be great... i tried to do this online but it said i cant do if my payment is due in the next 7 days... Thanks for help
  4. Hi All, Hope someone can give me a little advice! Before I start my story, I should say that since September I have not been at my main residence due to a stay in hospital and recovery period at my parents. I have only just returned to my main residence and have discovered the following situation: I used to have car insurance with elephant, which expired at the start of October. They then tried to bill my debit card, which had also expired, for another years insurance. Obviously the payment failed. They did send me 2 letters saying this, but I didn't get them as I was still in hospital. They then proceeded to cancel the insurance they tried to set up for me and bill me £75.94 for a cancellation fee, which has now been forwarded to direct legal & collections and raised to £95.94. Can anyone give me some advice on where I stand on this? In my view, they are charging me for a cancellation for a contract that never existed! How can they charge me a cancellation fee for something that wasn't in existence? I tried phoning elephant today, but their offices closed at 5pm. I will try again tomorrow but would like to know where I stand legally. Thanks, Andy
  5. Hi guys, As I write, I'm currently apparently in debt to Elephant/EUI group for the tune of £174. This is apparently the last months premium of my car insurance policy that they cancelled because my direct debit failed. About 6 weeks before the DD failed, I changed my bank details, but however, failed to register on their systems. The call recordings "Could not be located". I had the policy from 13 Feb to 13 November 2011. I was paying £137.00 PCM for my insurance and then October payment into November failed. I called up and paid it by D.card. I then received a letter saying my policy would lapse on 13 November due to this missed payment. I called up, fought my case and told them I changed the bank details 6 weeks previous. They said they'd try and locate the call recordings, unsucsessfully. They rang me back as promised and said I had to pay the £700 or so oweing and keep the policy live, or make no further payments and my policy would lapse on the 13 November. I asked specifically on the call if there would be any further charges if I allowed the policy to lapse, they replied no. I asked if it would be OKAY for me to set up new insurance to begin from 13 November 2011, they said no. So, Feburuary 2012, I start getting phone calls from CARS. They tell me I owe £174 to Elephant. I told them to do one and stop calling me. They did... Now I've got another company trying to get me to pay. I've sent them an e-mail disputing and told them the story. I wont be bullied like this into paying money I don't owe and I can't be doing with people lying. Any advice?
