  1. I am a manager of a small sweet shop and have been there for over a year. When i took the position it was agreed that I would work 4 days per week. my employers are now saying that cause i cant work anymore days due to my children, I am being demoted to shop assistant with a salary decrease. can they do this and without any notice or warning? thanks
  2. Hello, I returned from holiday just over 2 weeks ago and on Monday I found out, by accident, that I have been demoted and my job has been given to my colleague (all this having happened when I was actually on holiday). When I challenged my boss he said that it was just a breakdown in communication! When I asked what grounds he had for demoting me he told me that I hadn't been doing my job properly. When i asked him why I hadn't been approached regarding my performance he couldn't give me an answer. I work for a large national opticians and following the conversation yesterday with my director i looked up the company grievance policy which he has, obviously, not followed this. The store is actually a franchise and wondered if that meant he didn't HAVE to adhere to this policy? Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
  3. I have been demoted out of the office, into the warehouse, without being given any reason why. I had a review on tuesday, and found out that the reason this was was apparently because I was talking too much. I was told that I was moved from one chair to a different chair in the office, to see if this would sort the problem. They then said that this didn't sort the issue, so I was moved outside. I have been outside for 7 weeks now, but my first office move was about 4 or 5 months ago. At no point, until I had my review and questioned this, did they tell me they were having any issues with me. So I had no chance or opportunity to be able to fix what I was doing wrong before being demoted. They now say I have to work my way back up the company to be able to get back into the office. Is there any legal rights I have with regards to this? Are the company in the wrong, because it feels very wrong to me!
  4. Hi All, This is for a friend I think it doesn't sound right so I said I would try to find out for her. Any advice at all would be much appreciated! Basically she has worked at a well known retail shop for 4 years on a 16 hour contract. A supervisor was fired and she was offered the role permanently. Today (a couple of months after being offered the Supervisor position) she was told that the lady that was fired had appealed and has won & got her job back! So my friend has the option to go back to her basic wage on 16 hours or leave. Is this legal? Can she just be premoted then demoted like that? Do they legally have to offer her the same wage she is on now? Can she appeal against this? All advice needed? I think it sounds extremely unfair & just not right. Thanks for reading & in advance thanks for any replies!!!
